You did notice she never took a bite of the Apple and left the Apple behind as she left!

I think we are still more than a few years away from such technology.
I totally agree F2, but you honestly have to agree that it's a better view of the future than the muppet Thor has. My god he will be trying to resurrect the card punch machine technology next, oh and don't forget how we are all desperate to see the return of the 8" floppy disk!!!!!!

You know, I kind of miss the 'wedding cake' hard drives from the IBM360's I use to program. I also really miss trying to remember the format of the Tape Header commands.

Nope, I worked in a mainframe room - in fact as late as probably 92, I occasionally still used punched cards.

I kinda miss my mainframe days - brings a tear to my eyes, so it does.

The DPs used to still have to splice tape headers on to the tapes, from time to time. And a head crash on an EDS200, could be enough to spread contamination - not unlike a virus, to any number of other disk packs loaded on it - in the assumption the head crash was rather minor, and not noticable by the appearance of, um, smoke.

Noisy, cold, isolated - but no phone, was life at the master-oper.

Oh, Wongsky and you and me! What a team we could make. I recall slipping on the ice in White Plains, NY and my box of cards flew into the air. What a job it was restoring their order - you know, a diagonal line drawn across the top of the assembled cards so that they could be reordered if disaster or ice stuck!

I also recall vividly (maybe why the toe still hurts) violently kicking a machine that went down after almost 8 full hours of processing!!!!!!!!

I can just imagine all three of us sat in a bar somewhere in the Bronx dressed in my newly invented mobile computing device thingy and having a beer.

Yeah lets try another playbook and waste another $500million eh? Sounds like plan!
A 3.5G tablet a la ipad mini might work though. With 10.1. Not with 2.1 for sure.

People do win in casinos now and again. Look on the bright side they may may another tablet and wait until it's finished completely before releasing it. It may be a success and then they MAKE millions instead?

You never know your luck in a raffle unless you don't enter the raffle at all and then you know just like RIM that you've failed already.

hi, i think its a great idea and if they can sell phone and tablet for a reasonable price, say under 800, then we have a winner. Ill get it for sure as long as connectivity is instant and with no hassles. add all other devices running in conjunction with the phone then, yip, it all sound good ..... oh, it has to be the "Aristo" or better, all shinny and good looking ..........

If this rumor is true, it seem BB has found a way to sell tablets, while still taking a portion of the monthly service fee from wireless carriers. And that is exactly why Heins isn't interested in the traditional tablet business: He can't profit from MSF's.

"just as good " would be stretching it. If it's a wireless connection there would be latency issues - which means lag, lots of lag. The input lag would be acceptable for watching videos or reading, but forget about games and other interaction heavy apps.
Don't knock it 'till you try it. The idea is that since you've got your phone with you, and the tablet in your lap, it's only a wireless connection of a few inches, or at the most across the room. Remember as well that they're connecting via WiFi Direct, with 50+ Mb/sec speeds, and they're not passing through a network to do it. Latency doesn't have to be an issue here.

I like this ..... i can see myself using a dummy tablet with my phone, and if i can make my phones screen a whole keyboard while working on my tab it would be excellent, more space on the tablet screen ....... also another idea in this wifi direct , mobile phone as center device, is to have a proper camera, which can connect to my phone wirelessly, passing all photos i take to my phone directly, so i can use them with my phone or tablet immediately to send or post or whatever else.

Besides these devices i think many more could be used in this manner ...... i really like the idea AS LONG AS THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN DEVICES IS FLAWLESS AND WITH LIGHTNING SPEED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think they are even trying. As I wrote elsewhere a few minutes ago - they have eliminated all knowledge that the "PB was invented here!" It does not exist and will receive no support from on high.

I think people are ignoring the business considerations, too. Do this right and you only need one version of an app, in one app store.
No need to sync content to more than the phone, either.
I can see something like this being useful, particularly for business use. It sounds to me a lot like the docking stations that were popular with road warriors at one time. Lug your portable device (laptop) when on the road, but when you are at work or at home plug it into the docking station which has a connected large screen and keyboard plus wired into company network. OK, maybe no need for keyboard if it is now a touchscreen and perhaps companies use wireless these days? . Makes sense - just one device that employee can use wherever they are.

For personal use? Well it would do a lot like what a Playbook does for us now

I think it's a really bad idea. The developement cost and retooling required to bring it into production would be much higher than keeping the playbook going (maybe even sticking in more memory and a faster processor for new ones). Also after my experience with Blackberry via the Playbook there is no way I would buy one of their phones.

Given BB's history I guess we'll see them released just after christmas.

There was a business guy on BNN today. He said that all people like him wanted, was one device and it would not be a phone. I wasn't paying close attention, but it sounded to me like he just did not want to have a phone, a laptop or desktop and a tablet.

I can see that myself. If I still worked (which I don't), I would want a dumb terminal connected to company network which would allow me to access all software needed for work, intramail and store my data. To connect to internet, my phone would provide link to terminal instead of company network.

BB may not have it right but might be on the right track.

Meanwhile, we have what we have. PB + LT + Phone.
