I would just like to state one fact to everybody who thinks that because a company or person says something and then renages that it means they should sue. How many times does the government of either Canada or the US say that they are going to do something then renage on their word after an election? Should we all just sue our governments for not living up to their word? The people who bought it when it first came out or bought it at the first price drop (me for example) had no expectation of OS 10 and the ones who bought it when it was $150 or $100 for OS10 are the ones who only bought into the hype of something that is never guaranteed. There was no written contract, or legal contract made with anyone purchasing a playbook that would guarantee os10 on the device therefore there is no legal ground to sue BlackBerry or Research in Motion and this argument should just die in the water now.
Well, I might say that this discussion, at least, appeared to die, well, this thread anyway on Aug 6th.
But in some jurisdictions, a company's statements can be used as an inducement to purchase their product and if they renege, it can allow one to return the product. There may or may not be remedies. There have been class action suits for more and there have been some for less. In the end, few gain but it certainly does not help a company's credibility. And a company's good name or reputation might be important down the line.
