It seems like Blackberry doesn't want to announce the battery life of the PlayBook (they have their legitimate concerns; initial sales, etc). I am assuming it will be quite mediocre.

Will there be any PlayBook battery packs for backup when the juice runs out every few hours? Preferably official Blackberry accessories.

You keep saying "every few hours" you're a moron you don't know that

If you're so concerned about shortages of electrical outlets at 1 Infinite Loop, get one of these

Even if the Playbook has 18h of heavy use battery life, if they sold an official case that included a 5mm x 125mm x 190mm (4800mAh maybe?) battery and added less than 300g to the weight, I would be buying it in a heart beat!

it ticks me off no one has made a quality extended battery for the torch

Man, I just do not understand what all the fuse over battery life is. There are so many devices out there that will power just about anything. I have two that I use on air planes when not traveling in business class and they last me 12 hrs.

It should not be a problem with a little research.

So, I bought a Powerock Stone 3 for my Playbook and 9800. I travel a bit, so it looked like a good purchase.

It works fine with my Torch, but won't charge the Playbook at all. It's rated for 2.1 amps on the first usb port, so the Playbook should be able to charge from it.

Further testing with my phone shows that port 1 gives me a 'The charging source connected to your BlackBerry device cannot charge your battery.' message, so maybe I just received a lemon.

Has anyone else had any luck or issues with back-up batteries?

I've used the myCharge Peak 6000 when I travel without any problems. It works great on my Bold 9900. It charges the PlayBook quicker if it's on standby. I really like it cause it plugs right into the wall, and it'll charge any device you want it

I purchased a ZAGGsparq 2.0 this past summer when it was on sale at $50. It's geared towards the iCrowd, but works fine as a back-up battery for my PB & Torch (the later barely makes it to the end of the work day now if I don't keep it in a charger). The ZAGGsparq 2.0 is an older model device and has two USB ports (one USB is optimized for iDevices and the other is a standard USB). Only the standard port works with BB devices: ZAGGsparq | Portable Battery Charger for iPad, iPhone, Tablet & Phone | ZAGG.
    Tech Specs:
    Battery: 6,000 mAh Lithium Polymer
    Max output: 2000mA @ 5V
    Power Source: 100-240 VAC @ 50/60 Hz
    Physical Size: 3.5 x 3.5 x 1 inches
    Weight: 8.6 ounces

There are three newer models available on the website: ZAGGsparq | Portable Chargers For Tablets, Smartphones & USB Devices | ZAGG.

I have a NewTrent 12000mAh external battery that I can use to charge my PlayBook, Nexus 7, BB, or Kindle if they run low. Would be nice to have a case instead, but in a pinch, the battery pack comes in very handy.

On a lighter note, I left my 16GB Playbook in standby by mistake while I was on a trip up to Boston (the 64GB PB went with me). When I came back a week later, the battery was showing 35% still remaining.
