Thank you. Holding the Power button for some 15 seconds did the trick. Now it's time to see if there are any noticeable improvements.
Again, thanks.

I can FINALLY set up my Gmail account. Previously I would get server errors and it would not set up. I have also noted the lack of keyboard entry lag. SCORE!
I got the update notice this morning, tapped "update", it ran thru the OS update in the background while I was using the browser window, including watching a video embedded on a webpage. The PB prompted for a restart, so I tapped "restart". It restarted and all is working fine. Haven't noticed any problems. A bit of keyboard lag remains but not too noticeable.
Both my G Mail and yahoo mail accounts were working fine before, and they're both still working fine.
My homescreen wallpaper is unchanged from the cool NASA pic I had on it. It's still there after the update.
Yeah, I noticed the update progress bar sat at zero % for quite a while, but I let it sit there and do its thing. And it did.
It was all over in less than 30 minutes.
Have you check to see if you have enabled flash? Chaosdivine didn't.
BlackBerry PlayBook OS updated to 2.1.0.1314 | CrackBerry.com
the update at 37 mb took me an hour to download and install. Then it went to download the 407mb update. That too is taking a long time. It's almost quarter to 9 in the evening, and I probably should have updated tomorrow when fewer people were doing the same. Previous updates were never this slow for me. I thought maybe something was wrong, but I'll just leave it plugged in and check on it later.
That's what I had - very slow for the first and similarly slow or the second larger download. No one seems to know why some of us are getting a second download!
Hey now, sometimes I need some entertainment :p
The keyboard lag is almost gone its much easier to type on now!

Do a restart.
Here is a starnge observation about mine: I did install the 37MB update and everything went smooth. Never got a 400+MB uodate, BUT there is about 400MB missing in storage available. Before it was 52.8GB, now is 52.4GB. The install took about 20 minutes total. Could it be that it did the 400+MB in the background, or why am I missing just that same amount of storage now. BTW that is on both of my PlayBooks, the 64 and the 16GB.
My Yahoo email not only loads quicker since the update but my contacts now sync again. Thanks RIM! :)
Plapbook is really cracking me up.
my update went quickly, seamless with no issues,,, i did a wipe then went w/ the OTA,,, not much time spent evaluating it yet but it does seem snappier all around & even CRACKBERRY LOADS & SCROLLS W/ NO CHECKERBOARDING!!! sign in still takes forever tho,,, noticed a small visual change to homescreen folders,,, they now have a corner w/ a kind of leather desk blotter look,,, locked native wallpapers are gone & i'm ok w/ that,,, i always ditch them,,, battery seems better but i need to spend some time gaming to be sure,,, so far so good overall...
p.s. when doing hard restart you just have to HOLD THE VOLUME BUTTON ONLY for 10+ secs,,, it is unecessary to hold vol +/- as per RIM support,,, i'd read several different ways to do this in this forum & wanted to clear it up,,, that 3 button thing is rediculous...
Snappier browser. Better battery life! I love it!
I like it more than .1088.
as others noted, it seemed that a mere 35 MB upgrade should have taken faster.... it was almost 30 minutes for everything....
Upon reboot, i tried my typical apps including the streaming via the browser - no visible changes - about the same speed loading and playing.
Also, as was noted already, my free memory count went down by 400 MB, so it very definitely was not a 35 MB download.
Luckily the update did not wipe out my local contacts this time.
Is browsing the internet faster, or is it just because the restart cleared the cache? I have owned this thing for a few months now and it's been a rather boring experience. Can't wait to see what improvements BB10 will bring, it seems at least more.. Agile.
Great, two or three more updates like this and we may all have a fully working Playbook at last.
And some folks want BB10 installed on it instead.......crazy.
I, for one, have been using my BlackBerry PlayBook productively since the release of BlackBerry Bridge in 2011 and the development of several essential high-quality applications by various third-party developers. The slow pace of updates for BlackBerry Tablet OS has been painful especially for we early adopters and the many broken promises from Research In Motion during the past 21 months. We have persevered. The tablet has effectively become a notebook computer replacement for me when away from my home office.
Anyone notice their html5test.com browser score dropping? I'm now gettting 406 plus 9 bonus when before I was getting 411.

no changes as such for me post update,
youtube video still gives error, browser is at same speed and key board still lags. Its getting somewhat better after a couple of restart though. I have lost approx 200+ MBs of space.
If the final release of BB10 for PlayBook is anything like the Dev Alpha on a PlayBook, people .. disappointment is coming to get you
Wow Android applications are a lot faster with this release (Winamp and Plex are flying!)
;-)
Always on. This video failure happened with the original 1088 but then subseqently worked after an error message. It does not work now, at least for me..
Updated my Plapbook. Haven't noticed too much, but the browser seems faster.
