    can someone help, three times in 2 days i've got a black screen after opening a sleeping playbook and touching an icon on the homepage.. only way to fix is to restart .. any ideas battery charged around 75% every time thx

    Did you have very faint vertical lines on the screen on the screen by any chance?

    How do you wake the PlayBook? By pressing the power button or with a swipe across the screen?

    Ok, I had a similar issue, but I was able to fairly consistently reproduce it by waking through the on/off button; swiping across the screen it was much less frequent. I was wondering if your case was similar. I would put a call into Blackberry support if you don't receive other feedback here.

    Can you check in dim lightning or darkness, or by covering it with your hand, to see whether the screen is actually on and/or backlight on? It will be obvious if it is, since you can clearly see the light shining around the edges. This might tell you if it's on but not showing anything, or is actually off/dead.

    Are you on the official OS? Did you leave any particular app running?

    Have you tried

    To REBOOT:
    Press and HOLD all three keys for about 10 - 20 seconds: PowerOn, VolUp and VolDown. Start with the PowerButton. If you hear a shutter type sound, you've taken a Screen Shoot and probably missed the PowerButton.

    Try the Debrick method.... BACK UP FIRST!

    1) Turn your playbook OFF by holding down the power button
    2) Let your playbook sit for about 10 minutes as earlier suggested.
    3) After letting the PB sit (and still powered off) open up the Blackberry Desktop Software (the latest version)
    4) Once the Blackberry Desktop Software is opened, use the USB Cable and hook the PB to the PC.. THEN power on the Playbook
    5) A screen will show on your computer showing that the device cannot be found
    6) Click on Update. It will take awhile

    What 3rd party apps have you installed? What app are you trying to open when it goes dark? What size unit? 16? How much "stuff" do you have on it, 10gigs, 20gigs???

    Normal OS? Press the Battery Icon - how much power or percentage?

    You might have a defective unit.
