We have both 2 year old OS 6 and newer OS7 phones running with Playbooks on Verizon. There appears to be a huge difference in bridged PlayBook speed between the two for using cloud websites.
We are testing now to determine if the difference is the phone hardware or the OS.
    Does anyone know?

Could be the newer bluetooth but Newer OS is always better than the old.

I noticed the same thing. I am on os6 with Verizon and my father has os7 on Tmobile and his bridged pb browser blows mine away. I don't know if its the service or the os but i assumed it was the newer phone. We keep a hotspot in the work truck so its not really an issue but I'd like to know your result.

I switched from the 9800 OS6 because I noticed a slower connection to the web.... bought the 9810 OS7 and it was faster and smoother, I am now on OS7.1 with AT&T and it's even faster and smoother. I can't use the hotspot still unless I want to pay for extra data.

Yes the modem hardware is capable of a lot more cellular speed with the newer os 7 devices.

Our testing shows that os 6 vs 7 really matters for sml websites like salesforce.com or many banks, but not as much for regular sites. 7 phones are much faster.
We are going to change phones.

Here is a link to show you what to look for. Scroll down to the Technology section and look at the hsdpa specs for each of the phones. You will see how much faster the newer OS7 phones are. This is the spec you are looking for when you chose your new phone. Not all of the OS 7 phones have the same specs. Some also have faster processors and more ram.
