    Hi,
My Playbook is incoming... 24hrs away and I can't wait. I was wondering what BB Phone I should get as a companion for my Playbook.
Do I keep my BB9700 ? Do I get the 9900 ? Or do I wait for the "colt' ?

Pls weigh in with your views and tell me the why's as well

Keep your 9700 if you dont have the impulse to get a 9900.

9900 and 'colt' will be completely different. (codenames are not capitalized)

I will be getting the 9930 to pair with my 16gb PB.

I think any of the newest phones would be best but a QNX phone (whenever they might come) would be even better.

Yeah. Was thinking the same thing that way I don't have to overlap some of the apps.
Use the PB for net and Multimedia and the BB for comms.

I don't have a BB currently so I am thinking of getting a Style 9670 from eBay to pair with my PB while saving my money for a QNX phone later on.

Keep your existing device, set up the Bridge when you get your Playbook, and give it a test drive. If you're happy with the performance, then take your time deciding about a phone upgrade. My Playbook is bridged to my Bold 9650 and it's working out just fine. After all, the new 9930s are backordered online, at least on Sprint, right now.

    Hey everyone,
Thanks for all your inputs. Apparently I bungled my dates and my friend from the US landed today. I now have my PB with me it's on it's first charge. Still debating the best phone to pair it with but will take the suggestion of test driving it with the Bold 9700 which I have before running out to get a new BB phone.

My first BB paired with my first Tablet. Life as I know it could not be sweeter

i don't think you want to get the qnx phone. It will be a mini version of the playbook. The 99xx is the way to go so you feel like you have twoe useful tools instead of one with two different sizes.

When I was lugging my iPad3G and 9700 around, I've had this insatiable urge to upgrade to the 9900. My one and half year old Berry is starting to show its age, but I didn't have the money to get an upgrade from my carrier. So I traded my iPad for a Playbook and the urge just magically disappeared as Bridge breathed new life into my 9700 (it was even more magical than using the iPad for the first time)

Unless the 9900 have features you need that 9700+PB doesn't offer, by all means go get one.

I had the 9780 in white when I first got my PlayBook. Then I got a black 9780. Then I got the 9900 and I don't know of any *real* differences that it has made in terms of pairing with my PlayBook, but I do know that it is a huge step up from the 9780, and there is just NO way that I'd be fine knowing that the 9900 was available and that I was holding out of some phone coming out sometime next year.

Go for the 9900, your PlayBook will want a touchscreen friend to hangout with

i got the same combo until now...hopefully by next week it will be PB64 + 9900..

i will still keep the 9700 as my personal phone..
the connection will be beautiful..i have already tried it with my wife's 9900 bridged to my PB as the speed is even better..

i also have had my 9700 for 20 months so i asked my boss to upgrade to 9900 ahead of the 2 year contract and i would pay the difference for breaking the contract...

it was too tempting to wait until feb 2012

not worried about the qnx handset yet..the issue is you never know when RIM will release it..you may wait until march and the phone is not released then you will wish you had bought it in september 2011

knowing RIMs deadlines it could well go into summer 2012 before they release the QNX phone..

Just as an information, I currently have ab PB32 with a Bold 9000 (yes, still alive; my big fingers like the biggest keyboard) and it works fine. Just a little short regarding 9000 battery life.

I don't know if newer phones *significantly* optimized 3G+ protocol of if the reception quality increased. So it may be a choice to take a new one ... or to search ebay for "reformed" 9000 at a tiny cost.

You Playbook will be just fine being paired to 9700.

I had the same combo before. Initially my 9700 (with OS 6.0) had problem bridging to the Playbook (constant hourglasses, battery running out quickly). But then I switched back to OS 5.0 and bridging is far more stable.

Now I own 9900 and I'm personally loving Bridging the Bold with the Playbook. Maybe it's just me, But I've noticed browsing with Playbook bridged to 9900, to be faster.

My suggestion is.. if you have the money and willing to sacrifice a bit of battery life for a faster device, newer OS, much better keyboard and screen.. go for the 9900. Otherwise.. you'd be alright with your 9700

Well my suggestion is try it with the 9700 you have, then decide- you just may be happy enough as is - I am -

It's been my friend for many years and if I get an urge to touch a screen I just head for the playbook. There really is no "best phone for the playbook", only what's best for you.

The PlayBook should be OK with 9700, but ... About a month after got the PlayBook, was so enjoying the Bridge (on 9300) and the tablet that decided it needs "better" companion ... 9900

I have got a 64gb Playbook and a 9700 running OS6. Bridging works great for me, and I have had no problems tethering the tablet to the phone to share my data connection.

I like the look of the new 9900, but I will likely wait for a QNX phone with a keyboard before upgrading my 9700.

I have been fighting off the urge to get the 9900 and have been sticking it out with the Storm 9530. Partly afraid that if I get that beautiful phone I might neglect my Playbook.

Bridging the the Storm has been good. No real issues and the speed has been decent, but I have nothing to compare to.

I wonder if our Crackberry faithful can do a test with various phones on the same version of Bridge?
