I heard the same rumour from Bell Mobility and Rogers Wireless in Canada. They plan on offering a small rebate if you sign up for a 1,2,3 year term with their MiFi. Do not know if it is true, but sounds lke a good plan. I do not know what the Data rates are going to be, but if they stick to their MO, should be around 25 - 60/Month with 1Gb - 5Gb.

    Compare
    1) How much is a two year dedicated carrier contract?
    2) If you have an unlimited Internet plan on your current BB phone, do you really NEED a dedicated carrier?? (Or, if not, how much will an add-on cost?)

[FYI: a 32G, WIFI is currently being sold by several reputable retailers at $569.99]

    2GB for $31.99 ($39.99 less 20% for being a T-Mobile customer) and there's no overage.

I love the idea of a dedicated MiFi but I wouldn't use it enough to justify having one. The hotspot feature of my phone is good enough.

$40/month is insane for 2GB. If they cut that in half I bet a lot more people would get it. If you have the money to go out and buy the nice devices that would use it, an extra $20 is a no brainer. $40, not so much. 2 GB is nothing with devices like this.

Did you pick this up at Best Buy or Tmo direct? I don't see it online and might be interested being I already with Tmo.

I got it at a T-Mobile store. I went for a new sim card and while I was waiting they tried to sell one to a local sheriff deputy and offered him a $50 discount plus the rebate. After I got my sim card I asked for the same deal.

Normal price with 2 year contract is $130.00 less the $50.00 mail in rebate for a net of $80.00. Mine will be $30.00 final cost.

what happens if you go over 2gb? which you would in a very short time, if you are really using your pb.

we had 'unlimited' data plans with t-mo for many years. what they did not tell us was - the word 'unlimited' was just a name of a plan. at some point, t-mo quietly 'upgrated' the plan. as we found out, after 5gb, they slow you down to such a crawl, you can barely even open a browser. forget about searching the web or youtube... oh, and they tell you it is only fair to you and their other customers.

if you know your new plan is not limited like that, then you got a good deal. in any case, congrats on your deal and your new pb.

btw, is it 64 or 32?

Is that an old plan? According to their website the current prices are:

    $20 - 500mb
    $50 - Unlimited up to 2.5gb

    And they are only 3g.

Sprints overdrive im getting 5gb of 3g and unlimited 4g for $49 a month with employee discount, use it for laptop and Playbook and couldnt be happier. 2gb a month isnt near enough for a Playbook, i wouldnt even bother with that unless i had free wifi at places i frequent to suplement.

If I did a deal like that I'd ditch the smartphone and get a dumb one. What would I need the phone for and 2 data plans if I always have the playbook and wifi with me?
