- ThunderbuckRetired Moderator495 total? That's AWESOME.
And for those who don't see the value in this, html5 is a platform that is growing in importance by the day. At least two mobile OSes (Tizen and the upcoming Firefox mobile OS) are actually BUILT on it. The BB10 browser is actually an html5 app itself.
This doesn't measure speed, but it DOES measure both fidelity and the likelihood that BB10 will be able to process any html5 code thrown at it. It will definitely be an advantage.11-10-12 09:41 PMLike 9 - 495 total? That's AWESOME.

The PB browser had a similar high score, but could not actually do some of those self-reported functions, some of which even crashed the browser.11-10-12 10:43 PMLike 2 -

The BB10 browser is a case in point, since it's actually a full-blown html5 app. I was skeptical when I heard the browser wasn't going to be a native app, but it turns out to be smooth and speedy. I think it speaks volumes about RIM's commitment to make sure that the OS doesn't just put up good test scores.11-11-12 02:25 PMLike 0 - Last I heard There isn't another mobile browser out that comes close to the BlackBerry10 browser in terms of HTML5 compatibility and SPEED. Wish I had the link but the article tested a boatload of browsers and RIM's quote : "Smoked the Competition " "It wasn't even close " maybe someone will read this who can produce the link? RIM's back is to the wall and BlackBerry10 is do or die...this is why BlackBerry10 will be so good, because it has to be. Can't wait!!11-11-12 03:23 PMLike 0
- There are certainly developers who are "building to the score" with little apparent concern for actual implementation (Maxthon, I'm looking at you). In RIM's case, though, I don't think it's exaggerating to say that much of their survival depends on how good BB10 is, and Web performance is a big chunk of that.

- The HTML5 test is great and all, but I'd like to see general rendering speed improvements and (particularly) stability improvements. The PlayBook browser is fine when it works, but it checkerboards too much still and is the least stable app for me on the device.
I don't care if it gets 900 points at HTML5test if the thing is crashing every other time I use it.rupam95 likes this.11-11-12 09:48 PMLike 1 - ThunderbuckRetired ModeratorBy "fidelity" I mean that the browser renders content as closely to what the developer intended as possible. It means not having to degrade elements (which happens if a browser doesn't support specific features a developer might build into a page or app). It also means that the browser interprets code PROPERLY.11-12-12 05:54 AMLike 0

The BB10 browser is all-new, and actually a WebWorks app in its own right. Seems more stable AND zipper.11-12-12 06:00 AMLike 0 - I hate to be pessimist and negative but I'll focus on just one small thing: I'm not sure if the Playbook hardware, even the 4G, can handle all the implemented spec! Sometimes it's just not possible to support well some features for instance CSS 3D effects. The Playbook's browser supports it but looks worse and slower than the iPad 2 and sometimes even iPad 1 has better results!
BB10 phones on the other hand, which might have even a Quad Core processor and 2G of RAM, it's a total different story. With this kind of hardware, I have no concerns that it can handle the specs!11-12-12 08:28 AMLike 0 - I hate to be pessimist and negative but I'll focus on just one small thing: I'm not sure if the Playbook hardware, even the 4G, can handle all the implemented spec! Stop talking about orange tablets that dont even have 1080p and struggle to get above 30fps.
The PB dna is like an alligator its viewed as a dinosaurs by spec whores but its still around because its a beast that does'nt get owned.
Its evolving to BB10 soonish and as we can see by the scores will be sitting high up on food chain the dinosaur will live on.
RIMS forsight for the win.Last edited by RECOOL; 11-12-12 at 10:37 AM.

*hint* it's nowhere near 1080p
Sorry, specs matter. It's the 3D GPU that's going to be pushing those polygons around, you know.
Who knew that just by good programming I could get PS3 level graphics on my PS211-12-12 11:07 AMLike 0 - Those test are from Microsoft and I suspect have something to do with silverlight. The PlayBook's don't support silverlight. Now I'll get back to trying to figure out what makes someone who is not a BlackBerry fan, frequent a BlackBerry fan sites. Why don't you see for yourself. Here are some tests you can try out right now that shows iOS and Android browsers handily beating the PB browser on an HTML5 test. Take note that the PBOS 2.1 browser in question has the exact same score 484 + 11 bonus as the BB10 PB Browser shown in the original post.11-12-12 11:27 AMLike 0
- What 1080p game? LOL. Can you recall what the screen resolution of the PlayBook is?

SO specs are irelevant the PB specs are more than enough its a beast.
Specs only matter to spec whores.Products will always be released with good enough specs jn this day and age.
Good programming is the key to getting best out of your hardware simple.
People still dont know how awesome the PB is.
Nothing but good times ahead RIM for the win.11-12-12 11:43 AMLike 0 - Who's talking about Sony goods here?? We talking about PB specs to its counterparts on the market.

I know enough people that will buy anything with an apple on its back no matter the specs. PB specs are fine. It does the job. Updated specs would be nice, but no point in bending to minority of people that actually care about specs.11-12-12 12:15 PMLike 0

Given that the most demanding apps on tablets these days are games, the iPad mini IS all round significantly more powerful than the Playbook...especially when it comes to gaming performance.11-12-12 12:28 PMLike 0 - Last I heard There isn't another mobile browser out that comes close to the BlackBerry10 browser in terms of HTML5 compatibility and SPEED. Actually it's ideal that the tests were designed by Microsoft. When comparing browser performance between Apple, Google, and RIM, I would not want to use tests from Apple, Google, or RIM.mikeo007 likes this.11-12-12 03:40 PMLike 1
