Probably just a quirk with the software. I was having the same issue with mine a while ago. Nowadays my PlayBook gets me to the end of the day with about 10% left and heavy usage or a couple days with light usage.
The battery drain is dependent upon a variety of factors including whether WiFi and/or Bluetooth is enabled or disabled, screen brightness setting, applications actively running in the background as opposed to merely minimized, the type of applications running. Games, especially the graphically-intensive HD ones, tend to chew through the battery charge: Need for Speed can be played for 3-4 hours after a full recharge, whereas Blocked Cars could easily be played for 8-12 hours. I tend to get one or two business-days use from a fully charged battery although I have managed to achieve 24 hours of actual use-time with Bluetooth enabled (BlackBerry Bridge connectivity to my BlackBerry smartphone, and Bluetooth keyboard and mouse) when writing reports.
i have only enabled wi-fi, disabled when is not needed. almost no use only about 1-2 hours of web browsing bluetooth always disabled no brigthness. and in 1 day that's all :(
My PlayBook lasts all day with moderate use throughout the day. I take if off the charger at 6am and normally lasts till 11pm at night without the need for a charge. Under heavy usage....might last only till 4 or 5pm but that is still 10 to 11 hours......can't complain. My wifi is off while I am out of the house but it is bridged with my 9900 ALL day. It can handle anything I throw at it. My suggestion for your battery problem would be to back up...wipe and start over again.....should definitely last more than 3 hours. Also....how long have you had it? Never know....might be a hardware/battery issue.
I'm easily getting 7 to 8 hours browsing.......wi fi on all the time.....been on the playbook most of the day from lunch time browsing, just had youtube running for 45mins,still at 30%.......i've checked a few times from a full charge, browsing uses approx 13% an hour on my 2 PBs.
While bridged, no wifi and wifi off surfing etc 40 minutes or so an hour I get about 8 hours.
Do a hard restart, hold the power button and the volume up button down, will shut of the the PB. You did it right if it reboots on its own after about 5 seconds or so. It helped both my PB's after one of the software updates. The battery should last all day or close to it with heavy use.
As suggested in many other similar threads get Battery Guru app from Blackberry world to check on your power usage. If your power draw is too high especially when you are in standby mode it is likely that something is continuing to run in the background. Advanced Manager an Android port in the BB world can help sometimes in showing what it is. Finally do a search in Crackberry to check other threads on this topic. Might be something wrong with your tablet but first rule out the easy solutions.
i will get my playbook to full charge and while connected i will do a hard reset.
I have discovered draining the battery to zero percent according to the Battery charge icon so the tablet automatically performs a self-shut-down and then fully charging the battery and repeating the process two or three times resets / recalibrates the battery and charge-remaining meter after which a once-every-two months full drain and recharge cycle (one time cycle) keeps the battery at peak performance. The battery meter's 0% is not the same as a full discharge of the battery; the full battery discharge can harm the battery in some cases whereas the process I described is safe and will not void your warranty. Ordinarily, you cannot force a full discharge of the battery unless you open the case and short-circuit the battery but you wouldn't do that right? ;)
Mine is in use for a lot of the day on the web and all day getting/sending emails from about 8.00 am to about 10.00pm by which time it's down to something under 20%. I leave it on charge, switched off, overnight and it's ready for the next day.
Listening to music, likely two or more days easily.
HD video, full brightness, full volume (headphones), WiFi on - from 4 hrs 50 min to 5 hrs 20 min to about 10%. This has been tested on several tablets.
My typical work scenario: emails, browsing, documents, 20-40 min of music, WiFi always on, auto-brightness... 5-7 hrs to 15-20%.
