Sadly, this is true :p
As long as she doesn't do better than me on Xploding boxes. Just kidding:D
It did, thanks:D
A little lost..seems a bit troubling if kids today are glued to electronics compared to playout outside.
If children are getting their daily dose of activities I don't see any reason for them to not do anything else but play outside.
Parents are much better organized these days.. School, field activities, cultural activities and technology are all a combined part of a child's up bringing.
Operating a tablet can be as effective on the mind as solving get a puzzle.. And even then for the conservative folks there are puzzles available on the device..
This is all the parents fault. My mom limited our TV and told us to get out so she could clean house.
The kids today whine I'm bored, I want something to do. Good, go clean the yard so I can mow, you know, check for rocks, pickup sticks and trash, stuff like that, oh, and your bike, Frisbee, hula hoop, roller blades, skateboard, bike and anything else you left out there.
I live 1 block from a grade school and trash is a serious problem. When the kids get out of school the homework hits the ground!
They told me "I mean something fun". They couldn't fill a Walmart bag. Boy O boy...Just wait till you ask for something I told them.
They had an Xbox, DVD/VCR, tv, satellite, computer, MP4 player, bicycles, just about anything a kid would want. Not good enough. This is why I am no longer with their mother. After 7 years and them becoming teenagers, screw it.
This really sucked rocks because I was with them kids so long. The girl in particular really loved me. Mom was at work and she told me about her period. I had talks with her about things and she trusted me. When her grandmother died her mother was at the hospital and we watched the Bucket List of all things.
My mother had passed away about 2 years before that. She knew I understood and told me how sad she was.
I taught the boy to build computers, install and run Linux and Windows (the girl too, good at Linux), and tried to teach them that life ain't all fun and games and that they would grow up faster than they thought and needed to get ready, now, not later.
It all came down to what mom said though and I was tired of fighting with her. She grew up in Chicago and was allowed to run around and figured she made it just fine, so would her kids.
The girl has a baby and the boy is on his way to prison. Maybe that will be fun.
On a side note, I know of a school in Alberta that has an iPad for every kid in the school. But no playground outside. Just a dirt field. I think priorities are pretty messed up these days.
And she is playing a PlayBook.
*smiling* when I say it just means I have to wait to play with my playbook.
On the other hand I installed the math apps on my playbook. My 6 year old son averages 80% on addition and 60% on subtraction. I do not think that's to bad for a child in K.
