I don't know if there are different models but I've read that Apple bt keyboards do work.
Maybe try restarting the pb. Battery Icon: Restart
Nope didn't work :( ,,its a wireless keyboard model:BK301BA,,,, when e go to properties of this device on the playbook it says services:HID what does that mean? ?
Here is the keyboard http://www.amazon.com/NIKINGSTORE-Bl...bUvbUpU6946496
It's a "non-OEM" version which mean KIRF, I fear, so it's impossible to say what is going on.
Have you powered down the keyboard and removed the batteries before trying again? Do you have another BT device the keyboard is trying to pair to instead? Isolate your PB and the keyboard in a separate room to check since BT only has ~30ft effective range.
Many do use that keyboard and have reported it works well for them. Go into your BT settings and delete the keyboard profile, power off and re-start the PB, as well as the keyboard, turn on the keyboard, enable BT on the PB and try again. That worked for me on a MS board I was trying. Paired fine after that. Good luck.
Ok,, yes the keyboard and the playbook are connected,,, (it has the two green arrows in the Bluetooth settings) but when i point to a text field (or in word to go) the onscreen keyboard pops up and when i type on the connected keyboard the playbook doesn't response,, do i have to enable something so it will use the connected keyboard insted of the onscreen keyboard ??
I'm also having this problem. I have an HID BT keyboard, but it doesn't work with my Playbook... Any suggestions?
witch one did u buy ??X_X
This is the one I have and it works:
Amazon.com: Apple Wireless Keyboard MC184LL/B [NEWEST VERSION]: Electronics
a friend of mine has this keyboard for his ipad i asked him to letmi see if it works on my playbook and i did work,,, so when i get home i will see if the one i bougth worksx_X
mine is one model older
Worked fine on mine as well, if you have it set up properly, the PB keyboard will not come up when you swipe from the corners. When mine is connected to my PB and working, it deactivates the PB soft qwerty. Sometimes when i connect and the keyboard doesn't respond, i type repeatedly on the apple keyboard and it responds and closes the PB's keyboard.
The one i bough wont work :( it connects and every thing, says services: HID but when i type on it nothing.
What version of Playbook OS are you running and what specific model number of keyboard do you have? OS1.0.X had some Bluetooth incompatibilities that were fixed in the 2.0.X betas.. Additionally, older versions of the Apple keyboard are only compatible with Mac (won't even work with iPad). You may have a version that is too old and is incompatible with PlayBook..
In my experience though, the Apple keyboard (model A1314, 2-battery version) is the most compatible keyboard for the PlayBook out there. I've tried a few other ones and returned them because although they do "work" (ie, you can type on them, and the text registers), but most have some subtle "weirdness" issues (random disconnects, stray characters if you type too fast, etc)..
The only thing I've ever noticed with my Apple keyboard is that if it's been powered off, or the connection has gone to sleep due to inactivity, it takes upwards of 30 seconds after turning it back on or hitting a key before the Playbook sees it (you'll get a notification on the PlayBook when it finally connects).. During this time, the on-screen keyboard will still be popped up if you point to a text field..
Edit: I just re-read the thread and you don't actually have a genuine Apple-branded keyboard, but an "iPad compatible keyboard" from some Chinese manufacturer.. In this case, you took a gamble and it looks like you lost: best bet, if you're not already on os 2.0.X for PlayBook, try registering for the beta and upgrade- as I said, OS 1.0.X had some issues that were addressed in 2.0.X, and a couple of keyboards I tried that didn't work or had strangeness issues on OS 1.0.X worked fine with 2.0.X..
HID stands for "Human Interface Device" and is a generic term for any input device: mice, keyboards, joysticks, etc..
Hi there
My playbook version is :1.0.8.6067
And keyboard model is :BK301BA
Great i my bought a old keyboard x_x not cool!
edit: uuww okok i will try that this weekend and let u know
That is not an Apple keyboard, just a third party keyboard. I have the real Apple keyboard and it works with the PlayBook. I have a HP TouchPad keyboard that also works with the Playbook.
A lot of the third party bluetooth keyboards do not work with the Playbook. It is best to check here to get feedback on a keyboard before purchasing one.
aaahh great thanks for the tip :)
When I was on the Dark Side and had an iPa*, I bought a real Apple keyboard. Got rid of the iPa*but kept the keyboard. It works great with OS 1.0 and 2.0.
Hey there i guess the os 2.0 update has fixed my problem now the keyboard works like a charm :D thx RIM
I have the apple OEM wireless keyboard without the numeric keypad as you have in the amazon.com link.
However, I cannot get it to pair with the playbook. How did you get it to pair?
He did get it to work. He had an old version of the os. You should be at 2.0 or higher.
I have the Apple bluetooth keyboard, and I'm typing this reply to you on it. The model I have is:. MC184LL/A.
The way it works to connect to the PlayBook is quite easy. On your PB, swipe down from the top right corner to get the status bar to appear, then tap on the settings "cog", then tap on Bluetooth, then tap on "Add new device". As soon as you do that, tap on the power button on your Apple keyboard (it is located at the opposite end from the battery compartment cover). That will cause a green light to blink on the upper right corner of the Apple keyboard.
After a few seconds, the PB screen should give you a 6-digit code number for you type into the Apple keyboard. After you finish entering the number, be sure to press "enter" on the Apple keyboard.
At this point, the PB screen should show the keyboard as being connected.
