Skype? Skype is your "superior productivity app"?

You just lost all credibility my friend.

PS skype has been repetedly hacked to give away your info, this week was most recent incident.
That's not the only app that I use. It was the first one that came to mind (since I use it a lot)...

    For a start it's not a productive app, it's a voip client.

I use Skype to chat with department members about different projects and presentations.
Wow you just blew me away on that one.. Actually.. U had me at Skype lol ..

Okay just to make it clear.. Do you video chat with the department members or is it a Skype out call? Or do you just chat as in type? Coz 2/3 of those things do not mean business..

What's so good about using Skype on a tab rather than a laptop? I tried Skype on my Thunderbolt and wasn't blown away.

I'd just as well use the Dell

And to the name the second 'superior productivity app' would take time since you would have to find it first..

That I'm using to be productive...
Video calls are less effective than conference calls for business discussions.. I hope you're not walking around the city while doing your 4G (read lte) video call.. I wouldn't be so interested in what you're saying if I was at the other end..

Do you hold the iPad or iPhone in your hand when using video Skype? Or lean it against something?

I can see video chat for use with friends and family. It's nice to see their faces and even give them a tour.

But for business? Are you holding up graphs? I've seen video conferences but they're usually in a board room using a big screen TV.

Also, Skype KILLED my battery when I used it on my Android.

I said I use Skype to discuss(brief) projects and presentations. I'm not giving presentations via Skype. I don't understand why you guys/gals can't grasp that concept.

Why not use it if it's available? I'm all for using apps that makes communicating easier whether if it's work related or chatting with family in the west indies.

I agree.. but just a few posts behind you made it sound as though it's only because of Apple you are able to accomplish this.. which is wrong. I just use aol.com/av through the browser and it really gets the work done.. nothing super productive about video chatting.. it's just something for leisure..

Skype is cool and I would use it occasionally for sure with friends and family. But it's not that big a deal to have on a phone. If I used Skype a lot maybe. But then, I'd probably use the laptop for it anyway.

It's another of those apps on iPhone that's a "look what I can do" that is neat but not that useful.

Now, a period when double tapping space bar...that's what m talking about.

BlackBerry 10 is bringing innovation that makes the mobile phone experience more efficient, fluid and intuitive.

Android is far from that. IPhone is easy to use though. I agree. But just doesn't quite get the communication aspects down to a science like BlackBerry does.

I'm glad BlackBerry is stepping it up and continuing to do what it does best: make a communication device that is super efficient, organized, gets the job done well.

You have to agree or you wouldn't be here...interested in BlackBerry.

I use Skype for business, but I doubt anything you say will help some people wrap their heads around it. Seriously.

I highly doubt they can see how cross-platform videochat can be a cheap, useful, serious tool.

Now, would I rather use Skype on a laptop? Probably. But, since I have made a concerted effort to be more mobile, I would prefer to have a tab that had a cross-platform client.

Mr Heins, or whoever penned that, did an amazing job of being aware of BlackBerry strength. I was so impressed with the way he concisely summed up what most of us on CrackBerry feel about BlackBerry.

The others here...well..they're here for a reason. They know it too. Maybe deep down.

Now, I'm not a business owner nor a business person. I never will be. Have not the desire or motivation. I work at a FL department store and go to school to do medical coding. But...

BlackBerry reflects how I live my life. I'm super organized. I love lists and charts and planning and researching and getting things done efficiently and effectively.

That's the BlackBerry way. Sure, when I have time or feel the need I kick back with some games or play. But I take care of my business (work, school, family/friends, health etc) first and foremost.

BlackBerry is a tool. I see how that is so true now. It's not my entertainment first. It's my planner, communicator, list, spreadsheets. Yes, I have spreadsheet detailing my monthly expenses, my vacation budgets etc. No, I'm not a business person..but I sure do appreciate and get the BlackBerry way.

I have a 9930 and a pb and I love them both. That's my choice. Most of my friends and family (all professional people) have iPhones and iPads. That's their choice. We don't sit down and argue about it or try to convince the other that they're wrong in that choice. Personally I'm glad there are choices. In fact I'd hate to live in a world without choices. This thread has gotten almost creepy. You'd think people were defending their mothers rather than their smartphones and tablets. I don't see either side winning or coming out with their dignity intact. How about we call a truce and agree to disagree and maybe try to help folks with questions or problems they're having with their playbooks? And I say this with all the love and respect in the world to BOTH sides.

reeneebob, so should i ask my neurosurgeon father, internal medicine specialist uncle, 3 family members who are software engineers, a pilot friend and my non-tech mom to drop their BlackBerrys and switch to iPhone because my 4 yr old niece plays with one?

You care to share the models of the 3 'shelved BlackBerrys'?
    Actually realised there are 4 - 8130, 8330, 9530 and (before your predictable ZOMG YOU R COMPARINZ OLD MODELZ !!!!!!!1!!11!1!1eleventy111!) a 9900.

And no - while your rhetoric is at times pretty over the top (regardless of your limp pseudo 'no offence' your post implying only toddlers, senile old people and women are able to use iPhone because we are all so intellectually feeble is pretty offensive) I never said you should tell them that. However there are very useful apps that are used by (yes) medical professionals (I know that many hospitals use iPad and iPhone apps for access to X-rays), pilots tools (other professional pilots have posted about that on this very forum, and next time I'm talking to my sisters fiancé I will ask what his flight school and airport is using) and other applications. Whether you want to accept it or not, apps can and are an important part of any ecosystem in tech now. A lot of time the website simply doesn't cut it. Thank god my 9900 has a banking app for my bank because if I try to log in on the browser it crashes every time.

So are you going to tell the family to stop using BB because it's popular in high schools because of it cheap data and BBM capability to squee over Justin Bieber?

You don't like apps. We get it. Calling other companies products lavatory material that only weak willed women and the mentally feeble use?

Not a way to have anyone take your opinion seriously.

    Edit

And since you want an example if how iPhone can be used in business here's a brief start:
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/business/

Of course, I don't think you are really looking for an example.

What's the point of coming to a BlackBerry forum and desperately defending iPhones?

    Who cares about iPhones anymore?

And if you do, isn't there a forum to discuss that.

Some of you say "I own 3 BlackBerry devices that sit in my drawer." So, you don't like BlackBerry. Why spend a lot of your time on a BlackBerry forum then?

Again, who cares about iPhones? Most of us have used them and we don't really care to have them as our device.
Then why have you suddenly started bashing those who use them? We used to be able to have conversations but now you seem to have suddenly gone into attack mode. It's good to know what you really think of other posters you were formerly civil to.

You know full well I use my 9900 probably 2 weeks out of every month. I go back and forth. What I took issue with was your insulting (and yes, your post stopped short of implying all iPhone users are taking a short bus) millions of people who own and use iPhones - which includes Kevin, Bla1ze and a good chunk of the staff of this very site, not to mention your parents - and complete lack of awareness to acknowledge that there are things other platforms can do that BB can't.

Blind fanaticism sucks whether it's toward Apple or RIM. Just saying. Just like when Kevin expressed disappointment in the direction of RIM people wanted him fired from CB (and don't even GET me started on the BS reaction to him covering something for iMore ).

There are things my BB does better than my iPhone - radio signal, messaging and social integration for example. There are others my iPhone does better - multimedia, app support, battery life for starters. People can like and use both. The world won't end.

Doesn't mean it's okay to paint everyone with a pretty offensive brush because you don't agree with that.

    Just saying.

Will I get a BB10 phone? Based on some of what I saw likely. Does that mean I must automatically become an Apple hater? No. They both do things very well.

Also to be fair you are comparing all Android products against one of the worst battery life phones - the Thunderbolt. While I have used three models of Android from three different manufacturers, I wouldn't paint all Android with a brush because I hated my HTC.

And for what it's worth I'm a member of Crackberry, android central, webOS nation and iMore. I post on all (albeit not often on android or webOS anymore), because I own and use all (BB, iOS, android and webOS on my touchpad). I post more on CB as I've been a member longest.

Seems to me Thor trying to make blackberry user feel better about themselves by using his product. When did a product start defining a person? and you wonder why people say blackberry marketing sucks. this is a prime example.

His logic makes no sense at all. somehow blackberry user search and download app more than other smartphone user = to have more purpose in life. how can anyone buy what he is saying and try to make sense of it, unless they're trying to falsely make themselves feel better without actually accomplishing anything, beside owning a blackberry.

The most ironic part is blackberry got the least apps compared to apple and android. Also, what can you do in blackberry that u cant do in iOS or Android??? Out of the 3 there is no question blackberry is the weakest.
