Then they're selling them at close to cost, and dumping them for the next generation.

^^^ or they want to sell more 16gb ones and realized NO ONE would buy 16gb for the same price as 64gb

OR they want to get more sales period.

I'm sticking with my guess - they don't want to have to open, upgrade, repackage the ones already out there. But then again, some folks have indicated that package dates might be more current.

Yes, one user reported a January 2012 date, which means they cleared the old 64Gb stock. Now they need to sell the remaining 16Gb/32Gb I guess.

I think it was more of a tactic to get people to reason to buy a 64gb unit.

    Hey the price is $299 for a 16, 32, 64 hmmm.....

Well it would be dumb of me to get the 16!

now the prices have reverted back to 199, 249, and 299... and guess what! now the 16 and 32 will probably be more attractive to potential buyers.

I think it was a really smart move to be honest.

Oh, i understand that 100%. but i was talking about now going back to the 199/249/299
there may even be some people that didnt hear about the original sales and are like OMG 16gb for 199!!! also, if they say this will be the last time for the 16gb at 199 then people will clear it off the shelves.

I agree 100% with the reasoning behind all 3 versions at 299 (i wish i would have waited an extra 6 weeks to get the 64 for the same price i paid my 32).

as previously stated the 299 price tag for the line up was simply to reduce inventory on the 64g models. now that they have evened out the numbers the 199/249/299 will more than likely stick until the new pb model is out, WHICH I SUSPECT WILL BE SOONER THAN WE THINK... if you know what i mean
