We know that BB10 isn't coming to the PlayBook, but what about the ability to run native Cascades apps? I would seriously hope that they can at least add that part of BB10 to the PBOS to through us screwed over PB owners a bone (no matter how small that little chicken bone may be)...

You would need the latest version of Qt that's compatible with Cascades, the Cascades libraries themselves, and any upgraded system libraries compared to PBOS. It's possible but pretty freaking hard to do. Even then Cascades apps might not run properly at the PB's 1024x600 resolution without re-compiling.

Well, just read some of the lowlights of the conference call. BBRY is doing incredibly bad. Q1 results and Q2 guidance. They did mention "some support" yet for the PB. You can take that for what it is worth.

About ZERO! They've lost or lessened their BIS cut of data services. They have and have had no tablet for more than a year. What monies do they have to really expend on the PB - not much, I suspect.

I thought cascades was already in the code for PlayBook OS **AHEM PACEMAKER** just very few developers ever used the SDK

No they bundled part of cascades into their app.

Probably not worth the effort for developers...

The problem is back porting to PlayBook is no simple task.

Even as an air developer - they depreciated all the BlackBerry API's I used for bb10.

Sorry, app devs are not worried or even care about pb money.

If I could compile to PlayBook without uninstalling the SDK and reinstalling each time - I'd do it. I have several apps I might back port anyway

No chance since PBOS is based on the QNX 6.5 framework and BB10 on QNX 8.0, thereby the dependencies needed for Cascades solutions are just not there.

If you could somehow backport the system libs and re-compile Qt and Cascades to reference your own versions instead of the built-in ones, then maybe there's a chance. I had a helluva time modding Symbian QML components and compiling Qt to get my app working for PB. BBRY never did have a coherent developer vision for PB... all water under the bridge now since all PBOS developers have probably disappeared.
    Synerworks likes this.
