I made the decision to get the PlayBook. So the burning question is, do I get the 16 gig version or the 32? Which version is everyone mostly getting? I'd like to go with the 16 gig version, but I am afraid that it may not have enough space.
I got the 16gb and went a week later and got the 32gb instead; I felt like the 16gb wasnt gonna be enough. I say you should get the 32gb if you want to put music and videos(movies) in it.
To put it in perspective, I have just over 1000 songs on my PlayBook, a small handful of videos, a handful of pictures, and a handful of applications - and I've used 15 GBs of space. So I'm glad I got the 32 GB as I know when I travel I'll be loading some full length 1080p movies on my PB, and now I have an extra 17 GBs give or take to do so.
I was certain that the 16GB would be more than plenty for me. Especially as I have a 32GB card in my Bold, so could bridge and access all my documents from that.
But... I went ahead and got the 32GB anyway. True enough, I found I hardly needed the extra space, so went ahead and filled it up with the whole 8 series of "Friends" which finds me getting odd looks as I giggle to myself in coffee houses and public transport all across London...
I got the 16Gb but do wish I got the 32Gb However I'm not sure I will use much space. Most of what I do would be web based. Any music would be on the Ipod as for films I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
I returned my 16 GB for a 32GB also. Once I found out how much I would carry and use it for work and ministry I realized I would need the additional storage. My problem was that it took 2 weeks to get a 32 GB to my area due to one that I ordered getting lost in shipping. That's one of the strange things. Seems stores in my area don't carry many 32 or 64GB models and they go fast. Best buy had to go a full state away to get me a 32GB model.
Anticipating a major upgrade within a year if this proves to be a winner, I got the 16gb version on launch day. If they make a hardware change, I don't want to be out the extra $100 bucks for an additional 16gb of memory. Made the mistake of getting the 64gb iPad when it first came out and even with tons of pics, music and videos never came close to filling it up.
32 is good for a bunch of songs, a few hi def and medium def vids (I have one 1080 and a few 640/720 leftovers from what i didn't watch on the bold/ipod) then, as the apps roll out, you know you'll want a bunch, and with better graphics like the need for speed one.. (i will for the kids as they grow.. with the bunch coming and from android market etc..).
64 is if you cant live without huge selection at your fingertips.. though i i'm sure i'd find a use for it all.
if you can afford to fork out the extra 100 bucks (which you probably should be able to because if you can't then you probably shouldn't be buying a playbook), you're better off to get double the storage, or if you can fork out an extra 200 - get 4x the storage.
I only got the 16gb version. I figured it was highly likely that in a years time I'd upgrade to the Playbook 2, and therefore would be selling my Playbook at a loss anyway. Figured the loss on a 16gb model would be less than a 32 or higher model, so just minimizing my future losses by choosing the cheaper model. If I really though I'd have it for years then I would of bought the larger models.
If it had a micro SD, i would say 16 or 32, but if you're planning on having it for a while and storing several HD movies on, I would go with the 64 for only $100 more. After Bill Gates' statement in the 80's was proved wrong (we would never need more than 640K) , I like to go safe. Loving my 64GB.
I picked up the 16gb version. To be honest I only have about about 350 songs on it, and the majority of the applications currently available aren't more than a few MB in size. I considered getting the 32, but I wanted to keep cost as low as possible. I don't watch any movies on my PB, don't really record much video... I put most of my music on my BB since it's more portable, and it's with me all the time.
If you're not putting movies and a ton of pictures on your PB, the 16gb should be just fine.
PLUS with the lower cost of the 16gb the ol' lady doesn't jump my **** about higher cost... LOL
I'm finding out more and more that I'm glad I went with the 32gb, especially with the transferring of HD movies or downloading videos from Youtube. Once we see more native apps come out, they may take up a lot of space as well.
I got the 32 gig on launch day. I wont put any music on it as that is what my ipod or bold is for, but wanted the extra space for movies as i travel a lot and love the screen. I was watching movies on my ipod prior so the playbook's screen is just awesome and a huge improvement. Seeing that most of my movies are more than a gig. having 32 gigs was really the minimum for me. I think apple rim etc should not have made a 16 gig model unless they added an sd card slot. My blue-ray rips are over 30gigs in size before compression. I mean really a 16 gig usb drive is $20. Imagine if rim released 32, 64, & 128 at their current prices? No one would have complained at the price-point then because they would have one up'ed the competition.
I preordered a 16, then got cold feet and went with the 32. I don't intend on storing any music on the PB - I have all my music on my Torch and don't see any benefit to replicating it on a device that won't play audio any better, (unless you want to ditch the headphones). My phone will always be with me, but I can't say the same for the PB.
I forsee myself storing only apps and visual media on it. 16 would probably be large enough for me, but I wanted room to grow.
Either setup a cheap NAS drive on your network, which is an easy and not very expensive 1TB or so (also this benefits all of your devices, not just the PB), or use an online storage service for temporary storage.
