Has anyone heard or does anyone think RIM will upgrade the Flip? Higher res screen, trackpad and definately a faster processor would be so nice. I'd stick with this format for sure.
I wonder if RIM will do another Flipphone. The next Pearl coming down the pipe is the 9100 Stryker, what they do in the "Small keyboard form factor" after that is anyone's guess. I'd love it if they took the current Flip form factor and made a slider, but I don't know if RIM wants to invest the time /money to develop a follow on to the flip.
i highly doubt it. the pearl flip as i recall had alot of speaker problems. they might stick to the candybar style or incorportate a sliding keyboard. Not sure about flips.
I think the flip will get an upgrade in the near future. RIM needs to keep the flip if they want to stay competitive in the smart phone market. There is a need for the flip and with a few upgrades it would sell great!

They said that about the original flip, that there was a huge demand for flip phones and if I recall correctly it didn't outsell the original Pearl, which was getting crushed by other candy bar style BB's..
I wonder this too. I know I loved mine. However, it wasn't a big seller. When I had mine, I did not know anyone else who owned one. I think its appealing to younger people. Also, I think it's a good introductory BB.
I want one, faster processor, more memory, etc. Take the 9700 internals and put them into the flip and I'll even try to learn that miserable key board!
I guess it does appeal to younger people, us kids (I've still got a few more months before I'm 75) love flip phones!
I would have been happy with OS 5.0, nevermind the upgraded innards. It was my first BB and it's what got me hooked, but I needed something with more power. Now I've got a 9700. Typing wasn't that bad, and to tell you the truth, I like it a slightly more than the new one. I say slightly because while I could type one handed, some of the typing suggestions were a little on the crazy side.
Still, if they turbo charged one I might look at it. But it needs to have 3G. Anything else is painful.
I agree, I would love to see a new version of the Pearl Flip. I went out and bought one the minute it came to Verizon. The other BB phones are not for me, they're too wide, they dont fit well in my front pocket, they look like a calculator and most importantly the other phones b*tt dial!
In the past, Windows Mobile had a couple of flip phones out, but never made it to the present. I just don't think that there is much of a market for smart flip phones. Which is something I hate, because the pearl flip is the only Blackberry that I really like. I don't like the full sized open faced form factor. And the keys on the pearl are just so uncomfortable. If they do not come out with another generation for the pearl flip, I will be forced to stick with Android and Winmo (Mytouch and Fuze). Completely amazing OS's. Android has some serious potential
I'm personally not impressed with the build quality of the flip. Maybe having a Moto Razr before stepping into my first BlackBerry, skewed my opinion on what a claim-shell phone should be.
My wife hardly uses her 8220 and she's already managed to wear out two buttons. Not to mention how loose the screen portion of the phone feels.
If they do release another flip (which I doubt they will), I would hope it was built a little tougher.
