I have default ringtones for each profile. The problem is when I select a tone from the media app, it overrides any custom tones I have set up in profiles. How do I make it so certain profiles keep the default tones at all times. can I set up an exception for this?

It would, since that's it's job. To change a ring tone specific to a profile, go to profiles / advanced / profile name (say, normal) / phone / edit there...

well that sucks then it would seem the option in media app to "use as ringtone" would conflict with profiles. It overwrites all of them!
