VZW XV6900 (HTC Touch) vs Pearl
- Im struggling to decide between the Pearl that Im trying out till April 20 or return it to VZW and wait for the XV6900 (Touch) introduction some time in May. Any input would be appreciated. Please be nice, Im a user, not a techie.
Background: Until I picked up the Pearl a couple of weeks ago I used a Palm TX and a Razr. My needs primarily relate to my job, but I use it personally as well. My company will not pick up any of the cost of any pda, cell phone or data plan. I work in an office and schedule/attend many meetings, use email, and update and email Word and Excel documents.
Calendar- Advantage Touch
8130 no visibility to meeting attendees and meeting organizer. I have not found an aftermarket application that will do this. I dont want to change the field mapping to map the attendees to my BB instead of notes or location. Ideally, I would also like to see who accepted and declined a meeting as well.
Email Advantage Touch
8130 emails are hard to read. Can purchase an aftermarket application such as Empower for $30
8130 cant view attachments (that I know of). Im using BIS through my companys OWA, which works pretty well.
Instant Messaging advantage Touch
My company will be converting to Outlook 2007 this summer and the instant messenger will be completely compatible with the Touch, but not compatible with the Pearl as far as I know. Im a beta user now and it will get widespread acceptance in my company when it rolls out. IT tells me that any WM device will be IM compatible.
Word and Excel Editing Advantage Touch
8130 cant edit Word and Excel documents without an aftermarket application such as eOffice for $100.
Keyboard advantage Touch
8130 I like SureType, but the Touch with TouchPal ($30) looks even better.
User Interface neutral
8130 trackball works well for me
Touch touchscreen worked well for me with my old Palm TX, so I dont mind a stylus
Operating System advantage Pearl
Touch WM still crashes a lot from what Ive read
Pearl not as well integrated with Outlook as Id like
Data Plan advantage Pearl
Pearl: $30 per month
Touch: $45 per month
Form Factor- advantage Pearl
8130 slightly smaller
Size is important to me, but both of these devices fit my needs.
GPS and VZ Navigator advantage Pearl
Touch will not be GPS enabled according to the rumors
Pearl: VZ Navigator doesnt work with BlueTooth, but it does workand it works with Google Maps
Voice Dialing advantage Touch
8130 doesnt integrate with BlueTooth (that I know of), so you have to pull the phone out to select voice dialing not a big deal.
Cost neutral
Touch: who knows what it will really cost, but it should be within my price range
Battery life advantage Pearl
Touch based on what Ive read about Sprints Touch, this can be an issue
8130 its been great so far
Screen size and resolution - advantage Touch
Touch is slightly larger
Browser: not sure
8130 even with Opera Mini Im a little disappointed
Touch not sure how good its browser is.
What am I missing or what have I got wrong? I'm leaning toward keeping the Pearl...04-04-08 03:49 PMLike 0 - Voice Dialing – advantage Touch
8130 – doesn’t integrate with BlueTooth (that I know of), so you have to pull the phone out to select voice dialing …not a big deal.
I can tell you that I use my BT headset over 50% of the time, and I can use the voice-activated feature through the headset without pulling out the BB itself.04-04-08 05:48 PMLike 0 - I looked at both as well. The touch has no keypad!!! You have to use the stylus pen to type on the supertiny touchscreen keypad... I don't know how I'd survive without a keypad...04-07-08 02:34 PMLike 0
- The Touch is not that great because of the Windows mobile interface. If you're going to get a windows mobile phone, go with the 6900. Sprint's sold the touch for a while not, and it is by far the most returned phone because of unmet expectations. The lack of a QWERTY keyboard on such a small display is a deal breaker.04-07-08 02:38 PMLike 0
- No keyboard stinks. My friend has a VZW touch (dont know the model#) now and he is getting rid of it because of the lack of keyboard. He is looking at the pearl or may wait for the curve.04-07-08 02:41 PMLike 0
