Thinking of getting a Pearl 3G - what do people think of the Pearl 3G?

It's a nice little device. I don't particularly care for the form factor for my own use, but I do like how it looks, and I understand the need for that kind of device, there are A TON of people who love the original Pearl (AG is one for sure), and my GF loved the Pearl that she had.

I just hope that they bring a version of it to VZW, much like the 8130 of the past, my gal would be stoked if that happened! I'm a QWERTY BB fan myself.

What exactly are you looking for out of the device you choose to get?

It probably the only phone that would somewhat draw attention away from my 9700. Just too bad they're basically the same exact phone, just smaller form.

I had the Pearl 8130 about 18 months ago, and it was a great device for getting my feet wet with BB. I don't know if I could go back though.

The Pearl 3G is the same phone as the 9700 just smaller form, as said. It is a Good little device and full of features that didn't exist a few years back.

the only downfall is the smaller screen would be a drawback if you plan to browse alot.

Far too small for me. They're cute, though.

The display on the 9100 might be small but it's WAAAAYYYY sharp! 360 X 400 might not seem like much these days, but when you pack all those pixels into such a small screen it really makes a difference. Small text is much more readable than on lower res screens. You have to be old and in need of reading glasses to not see the difference.

Exactly. Still the screen is too small for me. I have a Bold 9000. Holding back on upgrading to a 9700 because of the screen. But I guess the ladies would appreciate the small acreen

lol. or people that care about typing fast and accurate. nobody beats a trained hand with a pearl, I can easily hit 50 wpm without trying and almost never a mistake and closer to 60 if a gun was to my head.

Would the screen resolution on the 9100 make it easier on the eyes compared to the Pearl Flip?

I both of the above devices. they screen sizes are almost the same. if you dont like the 8120 8220 screens the 9100/05 screens wont impress you. If your eyes are not great for the smaller screens which i have noticed over the years well... bigger device?

Having owned a Pearl 9100 on Rogers for the past 2 weeks, thought I would chime in here.

My background is that I actually came over from an Iphone 3GS. Previous to that, I've owned: Bold 9700, Bold 9000, Iphone 3G, Pearl 8100 series.

I had always missed the form factor of the 8100 series, but hated the laggy processor, poor camera and awful trackball. The suretype is great for me, as I have big fingers!!

So for me, this was a no brainer, at least initially.

My pros for the Pearl 9100:

    - fast processor (like 9700)
    - good camera (like 9700)
    - colour (cool black fading to red)
    - trackpad
    - form factor
    - Suretype

    Cons:

LACK OF APP SUPPORT - I could not believe my favorite apps, like Live Strong, Thomson Reuters, Golf Logix, are not supported yet on the 9100. I'm really hoping that they will support them eventually.

Overall, I'm extremely happy I made the switch. I've calculated about $200 / year savings over and Iphone (based on having to subscribe to mobileme for "send as" push email, as I'm not on an exchange server and about $60 per year for smaller berry data package)

If you liked the old Pearl 8100 series, you will like the 9100.

About the cradle, I thought I once saw a video showing charging 'pins/plates' at the bottom of the phone?!

Perhaps the video Sal made? Or am I confused with the 9700 :s
