Is there an app that can be downloaded to show when a text you sent to a person has actually been read, as oppose to just sent?

you dont need an application, you just need to enable delivery reports in the messages options menu

Not to sound dumb, because I know how to work my phone pretty well..... but I only saw an option for email, not for SMS texting.

Me too, only saw the option for email. I dont think there's a way on the phone to confirm if an SMS has been read or not. And unfortunately, I have not heard of a program that will do this.

Go to options then SMS and click yes on delivery reports
But this is a network dependant service it doesn't work on all networks

I've never seen anything that let's you know when a text has been read would be good if there was an application for that
