i know how to change my ringtone but how do i change my tone when i get a text....

go to menu, profiles, Advanced, choose whic ever profile you use, i.e. normal, and then highlight sms text and change to what ever you want! hope this helps.

Remember to change them for all your profiles. I use Loud & Normal so I had to set them both up.

is there a way to assign custom SMS tones for certain contacts? (like you can with ringtones)

Nah, I haven't seen a setting that will let you do that. Good question though...I hadn't even thought to do that.
