Yes, on both. You will also need a subscription to TeleNav, for it to work.

That sounds like a great idea. I am new the the BB arena and I did atempt to download the telenav app. It went through the loading process and everything but never seemed to be activated to be useful. So, how do I get rid of it and go with the google? That is my question.

    TeleNav is a pain.

Google Maps is much easier, and with "My Location," it's a great program.

New Google Maps uses cell locator.

So you don't need a seperate receiver? I'm slightly confused.
If it doesn't use a GPS receiver how accurate is it?

    Thanks!

You would need a data plan but thats it. When you go and click on My Location it uses the cell tower to bring down your location. Its works great for me.

There Is A Gps Option Under Settings/advanced Options, But That Just Brings You To A Blank Screen. Will There Ever Be A Gps Option For The 8100? Tmobile

With new Google Maps using cell tower locator, you really don't need one.

ok this will clear a lot of questions up.

yes, u need a data plan to use either telenav or google maps. to download google maps go to Redirect in the BB browser and download.

there is not and will never be a gps ability on any of the current pearls. the devices do not support it. HOWEVER, like stated above, using the cell tower technology gets the job done, but u still need a sense of direction.

Um, the 8110 and 8130 have GPS, and they are Pearls, too.

But, the original 8100 (like mine) and the 8120s are stuck without it.

The cell tower method may be the only way to get a Google Maps location for those of us without real GPS, but it sure is hit-and-miss. It almost never gets all that close to my actual location, and is regularly nearly a quarter to almost half a mile off. It's not much good when it places me in a totally different subdivision from where I really am.

Strangely, when driving on the interstate between major areas, it does seem to keep me on the interstate, although it will bounce me to a side road on occasion.

You could always just acquire a bluetooth GPS receiver, pair it with your 8100, then get better accuracy for Google Maps.
