I'm thinking of switching to a larger capacity SD Card on my Pearl 8120. Currently I"m using a 2gb, I'd like to go to an 8gb card.

    So I have two questions:

    1. What's the highest capacity card I can use? Is there a limit?

    2. Can I simply copy everything from the old card to the new and everything will still work ok on the BB, as long as I don't mess with the folder structure?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

For an 8gb Card you will need the 4.5 OS. it is all dependant on your OS version.

I would format the new card with the phone first then move the files from one card to the other into the cprisponding folders and 8 gb is indeed the max the pearl can read

    Doesn't the 8120 come with OS 4.3?

I believe that OS 4.3 will support up to a 4gb card.

Should take a look at the link Hazysky provided which states 4.3 supports up to 8gb.

Sorry to be somewhat blunt, but there is a lot of misinformation being spread in this thread!!

You do not need OS 4.5 to support an 8Gb microSD card!!!

All OS 4.3 versions support 8Gb media cards along with some versions of OS 4.2

As far as answering the OP's question :

    1) For your device, 8Gb

    2) To transfer files :

    • Remove old card and copy files to your PC.
    • Insert new card into your Berry and format the card using your device
    • Use Mass Storage mode to copy the files from your old card from the PC to the respective folder on your new microSD (in your Berry)

Just a quick word of advice, if you have Encrypt media card enabled, make sure you disable it before trying to transfer files back and forth between cards. If you don't you'll end up encrypting everything twice and the files will be unreadable by your Blackberry. Been there done that, should have made a t-shirt but friend word of warning will have to suffice.

Also, you don't need to worry about your settings. (Ringtones at least.) I just upgraded from a 1GB --> 4GB and it kept all my tone settings.
