I love the pearl form factor A LOT! I love my 8100 that I am sporting for over 3 years because texting is a BREEZE on that amazing phone! I don't even have to look at the keyboard when I crank out emails or texts with my pearl.

What I don't understand is why is not the pearl being released with better specs. I know nothing is official, but according to sal, the screen resolution is not as high as the 9700, which is really disappointing. Also, I feel like we should be sticking 512 Mb of ram instead of the 256 and a processor as fast as the 9700. That way, my phone will not feel so outdated 1.5 years after I buy the 9100 when I am eying another phone.

I used to have the Pearl 8130 and I loved it. The new 9100 does seem like they tried to put too much stuff on there so it looks cramped!

I disagree about the screen. I mean, come on, it's about 2/3rds the size of the 9700 (if not less) - how can you realistically expect it be the same resolution. We are talking about physical size and shape differences, here. As it is, we are getting nearly 100 pixels in each direction more than the 8100 has. That get us much finer details on the screen. And it might be slightly larger.

Even the 9700 has only 256 mb of ram. But I do agree that more would be nicer in this day and age. It not like they couldn't stick a 4Gb chip in there the size of a dime.

Whoever said the processor wasn't as fast as the 9700?

It's clocked at 624mHz. TAVOR CERBERUS in there...

I agree about the size factor. After I got used to the suretype, I can crank out messages one handed, and without looking. If the new pearl is going to be like that it should be a winner.

I love the sure type of the pearl. I still use it with my Storm. If this pearl is as fast as the storm, I might switch back to it. But the size of the screen may disappoint me as I love how large the storms screen is.

this makes me smile all the power and juice of a 9700 smacked into a small form factor with a great keyboard. that is a winner in my book. I just hope they also increase the resolution on the screen so that colors, pictures, and videos look just as bright and resilient as they do on the 9700

I could never get used to the non-qwerty keyboards except when I had my old samsung phone with the 3-4 letters/#

9100 release will be interesting Hopefully less bugs than the 9700 when it was released. At least with Rogers

We just got a couple of pre-release phones yesterday and I got the left over which happened to be the 9100. It took me a while to find the model number as the phone only says Pearl. The current OS version is v5.0.0.350.

Kinda disappointed so far because I can't get Opera to install on it because it says incompatible with the phone (assume due to OS version 5). The camera won't launch, the games won't load, but the video camera works. I've had the trackpad stop responding and have to power cycle to get it working again. I would say the memory stated at 256MB is correct as I have 140MB free after install two applications.

Its not compatible with any of those because your platform is 6.0, not because its os v5.0. The phone running on .350 runs like a Tour (9630) running on 4.7.0.12. Its a pretty old OS full of bugs

I am debating on switching back to my other phone until this phone is officially released and I can update the software. It is too buggy to use on a regular basis.

You're mistaking flash memory with RAM, long explanation to the differences but RAM modules are a lot bigger then a dime, you're thinking micro sd card

I hate to say it, but the Pearl line was never meant to be a powerhouse. The Pearl was the first "consumer" BlackBerry device and I think it will be continuing that objective. Don't get me wrong, the original Pearl series was very well received and has aged really well along with the 83xx IMO. However, it's not like they're releasing the 91xx as a flagship device.

It's going to be a great phone and I look forward to using it. But to expect it to have the same specs as the 9700, or better, is unrealistic.

specs on the 9100 are very similar to the 9700, only difference is screen size and resolution. it will be a powerhouse phone, i believe it will have the same ram, cam, wifi, touchpad, maybe the processor too but i may be wrong on that, but we will see. if im not mistaken the pearl was the number 2 selling smartphone for RIM behind the curve do to the smaller form factor. bring all the new features onto the new phone i see a Big Hit here.
