I wonder if they actually have any in store. Doesn't seem they offer the Telus pre-order anymore.

Rogers BlackBerry Pearl 9100 - Best Buy Canada
I wonder if they actually have any in store. Doesn't seem they offer the Telus pre-order anymore.

Soo why am I getting the feeling that Rogers is forcing it's customers to choose the "gradient red" colour? Because it doesn't look as if ANY other colours are offered.. The entire point of RIM releasing the Pearl 3G in all those different colours was specifically to satisfy customers and so that we could have this thing called choice..
I'm not happy about this one.. I want to choose my own colour, thank you very much!
Sigh. I ended up putting one on layaway at BestBuy despite only being able to get it in the one colour. What can you do :\ right. Rogers is only getting the gradient red.
Heads up: You have to go in to a BestBuy location to pre-order -- same thing as "layaway". They took a $50 deposit for mine and told me I would get it back when I come to pick up my phone, and that the price of the phone would show up on my Rogers Bill at that time.
I am confused. So, when you put a $50 deposit, did they not tell you when to pick up the phone???? And did they not tell you what the amount would be?
If you look at the 3 year contract price on BestBuy online it is $80.00. And no, they don't know when exactly they will have the phone (there is no set release date yet) but they will phone me to come get it as soon as they get any. Generally they only get 1-3 handsets or something skiddish like that (when the Bold 9000 came out, they only got one -- the one I put on layaway ahead of time).
anyone know, or heard if rogers will have more colour options? or is it just red for rogers?
If you read the posts above, I was asking the same question :P. And no, I don't think anyone knows for sure at this point. I even asked Kevin on BBM. Basically, Rogers will probably release another colour (I'm guessing white) down the road but they're starting off with Gradient Red.
Just to update my previous post: Since Rogers Launched the 9100, the BestBuy 3 year price has since dropped to $49.99. But Telus is showing a 3 year of $29.99... That's $20 less than Rogers AND Telus is also releasing the 9100 in more than one colour. It's not fair, is it?
was wondering if anything had changed in the last couple of weeks, my wife likes this device, but prefers it in black. telus will probably have it in black in the next couple of weeks, but they aren't willing to negotiate anything with my wife to keep her as a customer.
Ohhh I see. So you're saying you might want to switch her to Rogers? I'd probably say to just wait for Telus. Rogers may not get it in Black, but Telus has actually stated that they will.
yeah, but she's pretty pissed that they won't offer her anything since she has been with them for a while, 3 yrs on contract, but she was with them on a pay go account prior to that, and they wouldn't eat the $30 for the device, and pretty much offered her a data add on at regular price.
she has to think about it, as she wants to stick with telus, and $30 is still cheaper than rogers at $50 for the same device. she's just not impressed with the situation of telus' customer service and loyalty dept. offering nothing for her loyalty and willingness to sign a contract, she even told them she was willing to cancel because their offers were offensive. besides, she's not under contract, she can just walk away from telus without ecf.
maybe rogers would eat the $50, since i've been with them so long and we'd go onto a family plan, but who knows, i have a feeling they wouldn't do that since she'd be a new activation on rogers still.
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. If you activate on a new 3 year contract, then you will get the device for the 3 year discounted price ($30 or $50, whether it's Telus or Rogers). It's also the same as renewing your existing contract for 3 years -- you get the discount price. But they won't give you the handset for free if that's what you're saying (I'm not sure). You still have to pay for the handset. If you want one at $0, you'd have to pick a device with that price offer (most likely an older BlackBerry).
The only time you get a brand new device for nothing (no money/no contract changes) is when your device can't be repaired and they give you a new one of equal value (assuming you're on warranty for the device). When I was with Telus, I always had to buy a brand new handset if ever I had a problem. But now that I'm with Rogers, my device is under the BestBuy warranty that I paid $200 something for on the spot for 2 years I think it is (not sure), or you pay a monthly fee but I wanted to pay it all upfront. I know FutureShop has a warranty as well. Rogers warranty only lasts a year from when the device was purchased. For BestBuy, I have to prove in-store that my device has a problem(s), meaning they need to duplicate the problems in-store because if it's sent out and there are no problems, BestBuy gets charged for fraud and they have to pay the full price of the device (and BestBuy could also cancel the warranty at that time)

as a new activation i wouldn't expect anything more than whats advertised. as a long time customer dealing with retentions, i expect a little leniency, a little something better than new activation prices. they could have made her pay the $30 for the phone, and given her a discount somewhere else, telus was not willing to do anything for her to resign with them.
either way, what i was initially asking was closer to what this thread was about, the rogers device, they have the gradient red, which my wife is not opposed to, but would prefer black, since the only site i have seen the rogers device on is the bestbuy site, and it's only on there in the red, i assume they will only have it in red, but wanted to verify this with others.
Ya, I don't think they're able to give the phone for less than what is asked, but I just renewed my contract with Rogers for 3 years and the woman I spoke to over the phone threw in 2 features free of charge for the duration of the contract (it was My10 and free calling after 6pm, where as normally they would charge for that). So if you're unsatisfied in that sense, then yes I guess it might make sense to want to switch to Rogers. I would probably tell Rogers your situation and ask them if they can give your wife a better offer to convince her to make the switch.
