Is there a way to set up specific contacts to have a different ringtone than the main tone?

Open the contact, select edit, scroll down to the contacts phone number, hit the button next to the call answer (green), scroll down to "Add Custom Phone Tune" press the trackball and you will be in the list. From there just select the tone you want save it and you are done
