I just noticed on my Verizon Pearl 8130 that on the back it says Qualcomm. Unless I am mistaken, I think I used cell phones in the past that were made by Qualcomm. Did Qualcomm turn into blackberry, get bought or what's the deal?

Qualcomm is just the company that supplies verizon with their CDMA chipsets and parts of the like that are CDMA phone specific.

Qualcomm sold their handset division to Kyocera about nine years ago. As surfanimal said, they make the CDMA chips inside all the Verizon phones.
