I don't think OS 5.0 has officially released for any device except the Storm and Storm 2.
Have you downloaded a leaked version before? If yes, DM may be picking up the leaked version..
Let me know if this helps..

Wow....really?? Hmmmm....you should absolutely try to see if it is the real deal. Maybe Verizon released it over night. Interesting.
I hope so and I also hope it comes out for the 8220 sooner than later.
Actually it is on all the new devices being released I think...like the 9700 that just came out etc.
Correct.. But haven't heard of OS 5 releasing for older devices except storm.. 9700 will indeed be shipping with OS 5

I just checked my flip - no available software upgrades.
Double check that its not Desktop Manager 5.0 or 5.0.1 thats available.
I got a bunch of updates today for my apps from blackberry app world that said they were for my device (vz pearl flip 8230) running 5.0.-- These included Pandora, NYTimes, Wash Post, and Quick Pull Lite. Why would apps be updating for the flip OS all in a huge rush if there was not an OS update on the horizon?
Good point... There's a homescreen article from CrackBerry.com which listed the phones that RIM plans to release the official 5.0 OS on. The Pearl Flip 8220/8230 is a relatively "newer" phone, so it's not too surprising it's listed for upgrade.
From what I've been reading, the 5.0 OS was supposed to be released for all the remaining models which haven't gotten any 'upgrade love' by the end of November. We're approaching that time period quickly...
The beta 5.0 came out awhile back. I tried it but it was so buggy, I downgraded back to 4.6.1.234. I'm still waiting for the official, non-buggy 5.0 to come out because it had some nice features. But if it's the beta, I wouldn't bother!
I've never had any issues with "beta" OS's...not once...and I always try em out as soon as they're leaked. For me they're not anymore buggy than "official" releases ;)
I know EXACTLY what you mean... The 5.0 Beta was more trouble than it was worth. Not only did I have to get used to the over-sensitive trackball usage, but also my phone decided when it wanted to randomly reboot at times. The thought of a sampler was nice, but I'd much rather have an official release. I too downgraded back to the 4.6.1 for the 8230.
Take a look at this post when it came out. It seemed to be a pretty universal opinion that the 5.0 for the Pearl Flip wasn't ready for prime time. I never heard of anyone on here who was sold on it in its current state. It has some great features but it's definitely still a work in progress.
Yes, you're absolutely right. I should have clarified that I was specifically talking about the 8220.
At least you guys got a taste of 5.0...something I would love to get my hands on...even in Beta stage ;)
I tried the beta and pretty much nothing worked. It sucked a week of free time out of my life to get the old OS back. Now I have just a few irritating reminders (like I lost the old folder icons). Still, I am looking forward to the official 5.0 for some reason--surely it can't be as bad as the beta?!
Telus Tech Support (I know I know) told me not until Jan 2010 for OS5
I am using the Beta 5 OS and it is great!!! No problems except over sensitive track ball and i fixed that by turning down the sensitivity!!!:)
That's really just a month--despite some people's good experience w/ the beta, I'd caution people to wait. Personally, I am psyched that it may be JUST a month away!
