They are 2 different animals. The one stickied is a stable official
release. The one mentioned in this thread is a still being tested and
bug fixed beta. If you are new to the BB, go with the sticky, you'll
have less headaches.

Could be a number of reasons. The first is that the vendor.xml file is probably on your PC from the downloaded version. Take a look at the sticky for 4.2 at the top of this forum and follow the installation instructions. Upgrading your OS on the pearl is the same regardless of version.
