For install instruction to load any carrier 8230 OS on your BB:

    1. Download desired OS to your PC
    2. Install/run OS to PC
    3. Delete vendor.xml file. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
    4. Connect BB to Desktop Manager and it should prompt the upgrade. If not click app loader and that should initialize it.
    5. Do not unplug BB during the process. It will take around 30-60 minutes to complete upgrade.

    ALTERNATIVE:
THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH 4.6.1.284
If you are having issues updating to this version, I found an alternate method of loading OS on the Flip:

    Updating from 4.6.1.182 to 4.6.1.236

The 8220 is the GSM providers (T-Mobile, AT&T)

The 8230 is CDMA providers (Cellular South, Alltel, Verizon)

Do I understand correctly from the discussion about that I should not use this upgrade for my 8220 but instead use the .267 upgrade?

The above instructions are not working for my VZW 8230. I remembered to delete the vendor.xml file, so that's not the problem. When I attach the Pearl to my computer and open Desktop Manager, nothing happens. When I click on Application Loader, nothing happens.

The whole reason I'm doing this is because the time on the inside display isn't updating properly. Wonder if this problem is actually a larger issue?

I can only find 1 item from google that says battery life improves drastically on an alltel phone but that was going from 208 to 236

I have the same issue, not with the clock but the app loader. I think it has something to do with the platform being different. It is version .70 instead of .78 that the VZW one comes with.

I've had the same problem with my new VZW 8230. I even tried using CrackMem to wipe the device and it just comes up and say that Desktop Manager doesn't have any software installed for this device. Any ideas?

Yes, download the OS from VZW website, they added it on Monday night so you can get it there now. After installing it you can delete all the extra languages and apps you don't want. I have mine at 63MB after doing that and it runs faster.

I did that, but that isn't quite as new (234 vs. 236). In the past, as long as you delete the vendor.xml file, it never mattered who'd release it was. Is there something different about this phone that makes it matter?

Anyone with upgrading problems get it to work?

I can upgrade to .234 but not to .236 it just won't show up.. very strange...

I have uninstalled and re-installed DM, the OS, deleted Vendor.xml tried installing from DM or from loader.exe

i can't get it to show up. But like i said .234 worked first try.

    any clues?

I am going to try again now that .234 worked.

I was trying to install the update on my Alltel 8230, and it keeps saying that there is an update, but all of the software is current.

However, it won't even recognize the Verizon update, and I think I might know why. It's very reminiscent of the 8330 ESN vs 8330M MEID debacle. I think some 8230's have MEIDs (aka 8230m), whereas other 8230's have ESNs. Can anyone else verify this?

Tried the update method on two separate machines using the latest version of desktop software 4.7

The update just simply does not appear to Verizon phones.

Plain and simple-does RIM or Verizon ever simply let a power user test these phones out for a few days before the public gets them? I work for VZW and the problems on most phones are super apparent within 24 hours to me. Can my clock just frickin' work? That's all I am asking for here people.

Also would it not be good PR and R&D if BB actually had one of their techies peruse these posts and pop in from time to time with educated answers, even if it is simply NO?

    OK, rants over.

    Mine is MEID, what's yours?

I have an MTS Phone, running Verizon Firmware at the moment.

I have personally tried to update to the .236 OS and was unsuccessful. I tried through applauncher and through DM and both said Fatal error occurred and Please retry....The good news is it will only be about another 6 mos from now for Verizon to have a new official update for the Flip. Tick tock tick tock...oh the irony
