1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.3, found Here
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded. (Choose the Pearl 8100)
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
Have some patience, this could take an hour to complete. DO NOT unplug the device until it is finished!
Just a confirmation that 4.2.1.107 does indeed work with an at&t 8100. I downloaded it and followed the instructions from the post above. It did take quite a while, but in the end everything worked perfectly. The main thing that improved was phone call sound quality. I had a big complaint on how choppy .96 sounded on calls. Now using .107 it is vastly improved. I can live with this! =)
Ooops! Just realized this thread is for .109_Rogers, seems .107_T-Mobile is old news and i just did it yesterday %-| Anybody know the diff between .107 and .109?
I just tried doing this and it wouldn't work. I downloaded the file, ran the file to install the Blackberry Update, but that was where I dead-ended because I couldn't find ANYTHING that would have a vendor.xml file in it. Can anyone tell me what I may be doing wrong?
[EDIT] I just found the vendor file and am in the midst of an update as I type this. I love this site!
I'm with T-Mobile, followed your instructions to the letter, updated my version of Desktop and deleted the vendor file, but when I started Desktop after plugging the BB in, I received no prompt to upgrade. Could you advise?
?? looking for help, i followed the instruction above found the file deleted andnow have v4.2.1 which supports 4gb, my bb says 3.7 available on mcsd but when connected to the media manager(4.3) it only gives me the option to save or dd to device memory, my comp does not recognize the bb is even there ?? yes mass media on y enabled(tried prompted 2) the phone first had v 4.2.0 device software. HELP please, thanx
Any know, does this update to 4.2.1.109 offer A2DP support? I currently have the T-Mobile 4.2.1.107 and its fine except no A2DP for stereo bluetooth streaming
took it out put it in redid it all , dm does not recognize card, loaded songs on card via wifes 8310, if i go into music , media card i get an up folder but nothing there , if i go media, music explore they are there and will play but i cant load w the 8100 help
Seems to be working so far, at least in as much as I have a fancier DM now. My sync configuration setings didnt follow though. Now whenI try to configure sync it says "cannot find system in table file". This is after I go thru the whole process of configuring it to sync to outlook 2003 and I get a message saying I have successfully configured the settings? I also am not gettign anything asking if I want to update my device.
oh its an 8100 on AT&T
Did the update without problem! But I wonder, does anyone else with AT&T notice that sometimes their BB won't ring but once before going to voice mail? I tested this by calling my cell from my land line. Through the land line it rang 6 times, then on the 7th the BB rang, but before the 7th ring completed voice mail picked up! Anyone else notice this?
I can not find apploader anywhere. The only file i have under research in motion is the blackberry file, therefore i can not find my vendor file. Can anyone help??
I have T-Mobile and when I upgraded the OS I lost my "My Faves". I went to the T-Mobile store and they were able to restore it for me. They said when I upgraded the OS my "T-Client" was removed and I can only have it reinstalled by having them or customer service reboot it. Just wanted to give an FYI for anyone that might end up with the same problem after upgrading. Everything else is fine though and running perfectly!

1. download and Install Desktop manager to your PC.
2. Download and install the OS from this thread.
3. Delete vendor.xml
4. Plug in and run Desktop manager.
It should prompt you to upgrade.
