Software For BlackBerry Pearl (TM) 8100 smartphone

    BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.255 (EastAsia)

    Package Version: 4.5.0.255
    Consisting of:
    Applications: 4.5.0.162
    Software Platform: 2.7.0.103
    File name: 8100EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel255_PL2.7.0.103_A4.5.0.16 2_Vodafone_Essar_Limited__for_Hutch_Essar_devices_ .exe
    File size: 89.67MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

    DL Link: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...DF29596708C94B

    1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. (Vista users be sure to right click on the .exe file and select "Run As Adminstrator.")
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

What's with all the quick releases on updates lately? I upgraded to 161 just a short while ago. As stated, the platform seems to be a rollback. Maybe they were having issues with 105?

Anyone see any differences from 161 to 162?

Running the upgrade right now. The system is actually a downgrade, but not much of one. A lot of the core apps however are an upgrade. This leads me to believe someone found some issues with the system build on .161. I did encounter an problem with data delaying my operations, so I will see how this goes. Took about a week for the buggyness to show with .161, so I may not have an input on it for a couple. It considered this a downgrade, even though most of the package is actually an upgrade, and the AppLoader kept failing from DM, so I ran it direct.

yeah same here i had to run it directly because it kept failing in dm. is it because the software platform is lower?

That's what I'm presuming. Never had an issue before like that, but with it being a mixed bag, it might have had DM confused.

I am using .153 on mine, and noticed that since I did the upgrade that many things were slow as molasses. This was most noticeable with SMS/MMS messaging. When I receive a message, and press the trackball to open that message, it would take upwards of 10-30 seconds to display that message on my screen. This was fairly annoying when texting clients, and are on somewhat of a time-crunch.

I am installing this version now, hoping that I see an improvement.

Doesn't make sense to me either.

    v4.5.0.162 (Platform 2.7.0.103)

    v4.5.0.161 (Platform 2.7.0.105)

    Which one is the upgrade?

.162 is the latest, but I guess there were issues with platform 2.7.0.105. The platform is a downgrade, but apparently some applications are upgraded.

I did the "upgrade" yesterday. No issues. Everything seems to work just fine.

YES...it will be a greatly updated OS. The only thing to be careful of is 3rd party applications which you might have on the phone. Some older applications are not compatible with OS 4.5. There is no "one step" test to see if it'll work...you have to read up on the software itself.

    I have a newbie question:
Is there a place where we can see the changelog between the different OS versions?
For example I have a BB Pearl with version 4.5.0.55 and want to know if a upgrade is worth it.
It works now but sometimes hangs with the hourglass for a minute.
    Anybody?

There's no change log RIM has ever provided. From your version there would be improvements to performance, but no true difference you would see. It's not like upgrading from 4.2something, and now having html email, youtube, etc. The only distinct difference you will immediately see, will be more file free memory.

    hello,
I was just going through your post and i have installed the same version for my first blackberry 8100(t-mobile). Upgrade went smooth and it has the latest OS (8100-v4.5.0.162_P2.7.0.103) in my BB. but the problem is performance. it is dam slow and sometimes my BB freezes during menu navigation. I was just wondering why it is slow on new OS. does it has any issues with new OS(4.5.0.162)? or just my BB doesn't support that OS version because its a t-mobile customized before.

    Please clarify me. thanks!

For some reason, I've noticed that brickbreaker seems to be more choppy under the new 162 OS than in previous versions. Will continue testing brickbreaker to see if things change.

    Dang!
Here in Alaska I'm depending on this little phone for my internet addiction, so unless any of you fine souls out there have a bright idea that might help in this matter....
