    Hi Guys,

I'm getting a Pearl 8110 from Vodafone UK free through work but will come carrier unlocked.

I have a contract with Orange and want to put my SIM in it.

Now, what would happen to the phone if I install a new OS for Orange UK bearing in mind that the OS is for a Pearl 8120 as Orange don't have the 8110

Would it rebrand the software in the phone to Orange or will it still have the Vodafone splash at startup?

Or is there an OS that is just Blackberry??

Or am I talking rubbish and there's nothing I can do...

Do not install 8120 firmware on an 8110, that's for making bricks.

The carrier doesn't really matter. You can install any 8110 OS from any carrier as long as you delete the 'Vendor.xml' file in Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader\ BEFORE you plug in your phone for an update.

I was considering doing the same thing as I can prob. get an new pearl via vodafone uprade but want to use on orange network (Assuming I can unlock) But my first issue that stopped me was If Orange don't do the 8110, surely there is no Orange 8110 software available at all so a non-starter. I am guessing, so don't take my word for it & I would be pleased to hear that I am wrong & it is possible.

I would strongly suggest that you take some time to get familiar with the phone before you start playing DR Frankenstein.
    Just my $0.02 worth.

I agree with CrackBlack above. This man knows. The BlackBerry OS upgrade is not something to be trifled with unless you know what you are about.

Upgrading the OS will not de-brand your phone from Vodafone. The Vodafone spash screen is like the BIOS screen on your PC. It is always there regarless of wherther you run XP or Vista.

If you are considerig upgrading and wish to maximize your phone's memory then you should look at this thread http://forums.crackberry.com/f2/crac...eleased-50987/.

    You should also read http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...-memory-34633/.

But please do learn about your phone before you try this.
