I would love to set my phone to automatically return to the home screen after I send a message, end a phone call, or close the phone. Any ideas?

as far as i know, i do not think this is possible.

I don't know of a way to do it. If you press the Call End button from most apps it will switch to the home screen. But the app is still running in the background, nibbling on your battery life.
