How to Remove Emergency Call Feature?
- I'm having a bit of a dilema right now. My case is missing at the moment so I am forced to lock the keys while I keep it in my pocket.
My problem is my Blackberry is finding it very easy to dial emergency service (AKA Police) while in lock mode.
(Trackball movement + Green Button = Police)
Is there a way to remove the emergency call feature?05-08-08 11:05 AMLike 0 -

In standbye you should receive all messages/calls still.06-06-08 08:30 AMLike 0 -
Sorry i wasnt being sarcastic , i thought it was funny that people anthropomorph their BBs and get to attached to them.06-06-08 08:51 AMLike 0 - There are countless threads about this topic but the problem is, everyone is looking to remove the feature. Since RIM (or any cellphone company) must have that emergency option why don't we just leave it but find a way to change the emergency number that is programmed into the phone? I'm tired of this nanny state stuff... If I want to lock my blackberry and put it in my pocket without accidentally calling and taking up the time of the police, I should be able to do so. So, how do we change the programming so that instead of the phone's emergency number being 911, have it be * or # or whatever sequence of numbers. This way, RIM has done what they needed to do (which is providing the phone with an emergency option) and since we are not required to have this option on our phones once we own it, lets change it. Any ideas?01-06-09 06:50 PMLike 0
- I just don't want my phone to be on in my pocket while connected to 911. It's a hassle for them and may impede others in need. I suppose I could use my case but I have it set to lock when but in the case. I like this feature but I don't want to have to enter my password in every 25 seconds.01-06-09 10:11 PMLike 0
- Imagine my surprise last week when I heard a LOUD beeping and my phone was locked in my front pocket. I look at the phone and try to hang up, but just then the exchange for Columbus police calls my cell. I was mortified. I just joined this site, so thanks for the info. on the Standby mode. I will start using that tonight.01-12-09 08:08 PMLike 0
- It's a lot easier to just hit the star key to lock the phone and stick it in your pocket. If you're like me and get a lot of texts, putting it in standby every time just doessn't seem practical. I wish there was a better solution. I like the idea of being able to just change the emergency number.01-13-09 07:54 PMLike 0
- Well my berry just called 911 and it scared the crap out of me because the phone said emergency mode and I couldn't figure out how to get it off. I got a call back from 911 asking if I had called and I said no. This is the first time in owning the phone for about a month that it has happened though. If it continues to happen I will have to try standby.01-21-09 02:07 PMLike 0

god forbid, if something awful happens, you might be happy that you can call 911 easily...and that they call back to check on you...
cheers

You can still dial '911' while the phone is locked. It requires less steps to dial 911 while the phone is locked then when it is unlocked????09-18-09 08:51 AMLike 0
- when you hit emergency call it asks you on a seperate screen "are you sure you want to make an emergency call?" theres warning there, ive had this since i got the phone09-19-09 12:01 AMLike 0

- You all are overlooking some facts here.
1) It is obligatory to have the option to make an emergency call from any phone in any state by anyone who picks the phone up.
2) It is not the fault of RIM that you have the option there nor is it their fault for the ease of use of this "feature".
3) Some BlackBerry smartphones (the Pearl at least) suffer from a known problem that even if locked, pushing and holding down the End/Power button will still turn off the BlackBerry. Also, if you put your Pearl to Standby Mode, you can accidentally push the End/Power and get back to the Home Screen as if the Pearl was not in Standby Mode. In other words it is not only the Mute button, which makes you get out of Standby Mode.
4) I won't be praying for those who wish to have the emergency call option removed.09-20-09 04:01 AMLike 0 - Where did rubelmo's post go?
Here's what I just got in an e-mail but don't see the post in here.

I have tried many different solutions for my problem but this one really works.
Emergency Call Lock - appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/5012
In my country, I got a warning letter from police that legal actions will be taken against me if there is repeated emergency calls.
I have tried putting my phone on standby, my kids is still able to turn it on and make those emergency calls.
I have tried applications like PhoneBasics, pattern lock, however, due to my company security policy, the blackberry lock still appears after a while and then either I pocket dial the emergency or my kids will dial it for me.
This application does not add a additional lock like the applications I have tried, it kills the call whenever the emergency call is made while the phone is locked.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com01-11-10 01:29 AMLike 0 - I had this problem as well and the 911 dispatcher was nasty and told me to lock my phone. Ha, it was locked. What I did was add the feature "place call while in locked state" and so now if it's in my pocket the ball would roll to either "unlock" or "place call" and I have so far not triggered the "emergency call" feature yet. Hope this helps someone.01-15-10 04:54 PMLike 0
