please excuse me, i'm still somewhat new to this and tinkering around when i have time. i have no clue where or how to get the 4.5 os update for my 8100. i have looked high and low, i think. i just can't figure out where to get it. i see everyone talking about it but ....... i'm lost. Please help!
cardiac..... a) i have no idea when to delete the "vendor file" or what the vendor file is. and b) is the 4.3 version they list the same as 4.5 because thats all i can find on that site.
There is no official version of 4.5. It's still currently in beta development. No 4.3 is not exactly the same as 4.5. If they were, it would be the same version. There isn't a v4.3 for the 8100 either. The latest is v4.2.1.109. And to be honest, I don't recommend that you install the beta version of 4.5 that blackberry9999 is offering you. I think you would end up just having difficulty installing it and run into problems once it is installed.
A few people have leaked a private beta version of 4.5 and have been distributing it to people. This beta version is not intended for public use. These people that do have it, shouldn't.
Don't sweat it. Everything you need to know (pros/cons) and want to ask about the beta 4.5 OS is already documented in one of several threads on this site. The betas(.10 and .18) have been well documented on here. Whatever you decide(upgrade or not), do your homework prior to making a decision. .

Reason: error
For sure unless your BB is acting wierd and you NEED to update.. DONT!! enjoy your working BB.. Trust, just cause everyonr else has 30k+ application and OS 6.9million it not intinded nor needed for and avg BB user.. a lot of that mumbo jumbo is for big head and jet setters. Ones who need tip top software.. Oh and the vendor file is in the C:> Program files> Common Files> Research in Motion> Apploader..... this is for your desktop software.. update desktop when updating OS if need or applicable
I can honestly say messing with the berry has its upsides and downsides. I for one have bricked a berry and am a lot more cautious now. If you're not familiar with how it works, hang loose and wait for the official version. The Beta probably takes some tweaking (judging by posts I've read) and can be problematic.
