My friend is "upgrading" to an ipaq, and as such, has no use for his pearl, so i get it at a great price (case of beer and help him move next month). My question is, does a hard reset erase all his info, or do i need to contac the service provider (we use the same) to make the change

I believe all of the info is saved to the phone, not the carrier. A hard wipe should do the trick.
