I really want a pearl 9100 its apparently not being sold anywhere I check, including my local telus store. I would prefer not to purchase an unlocked one as im not very experienced with dealing with them at all

    I live in Alberta, Canada
    please help if you can!

The unlocked phones are the best. You just need to know which type is compatible with your carrier before buying a phone.

wikipedia says telus is "CDMA/HSPA; HSPA on 850 and 1900"

and from when I last checked every 9100 on ebay said "compatible on any gsm network" which I beleive telus is not?

Thank you very much for the reply though

Won't Telus customer service tell you what other carrier phones work on their network?

Ask at a Telus store but from what I read, maybe a Virgin or Bell Canada 9100.

I have an unlocked Virgin 9100 that has hardly been used as I find it too small for my taste. I will check if it can be used in Alberta on Telus if you're still interested. I'm in Ontario.

Unlocked Blackberry is simply a Blackberry phone that the SIM lock security was removed from it.

When you buy Blackberry mobile device from a carrier it can be used only with the carrier that branded it.. because of the sim lock.. the sim lock can be removed using a code (unlocking code) and it's unique for each device... it won't effect the phone, it will only make the phone available to read sim cards from other carrier and not only the carrier that it's branded to.

So you have nothing to worry about.. just make sure that the build that you buy is one that supports the frequency bands your carrier is using for their data service and you will be fine.

Pearl 9100 will work on any GSM network. Telus, as you have mentioned is not GSM however you can still use the 9100 on the telus network via the 3G network.
