Hi all noob here. I bought a 2nd hand 8120 unlocked but it was on the Orange network. Is there a way of getting rid of the Orange UK splash screen as well as the browser. I am on Vodafone and I cannot get the Vodafone live page up when I connect. My friend did wipe the device using MML but when I put the apploader on there it reverted back to Orange again. I can only use the 4.5 apploader software and cannot even upgrade to a newer firmware.
The only thing that prevents you from using alternate carrier software is the presence of a security file installed with the software. In order to use it, you delete the file vendor.xml and continue the install.
The only difference will be the vendor theme, you will get the Orange UK theme because it matches your internal branding. It is a simple matter to exchange that for the Vodafone vendor theme.
Everything else is pushed by service books. As soon as your updated, all the Vodafone stuff will be delivered.
I feel exactly the same way as the OP about Orange, but don't understand your response - could you please put it in '*****' language so I can follow your advice?
Hi Reed I am kind of understanding what you mean. I downloaded 4.3 software from RIM directly the F100 version I deleted the vendor.xml before running the apploader. It put the phone to 4.3 but it still had orange branding on it. Ideally I would like a carrier free version of the device with the Blackberry logo as the splash screen. Instead of Orange who love crippling their devices.
However my DM somehow has a permenant version of 4.5 on it and it will not let me upgrade or downgrade properly.
Hi Hazy I just clicked on the link i got page not found. I did delete the vendor.xml after installing it on the PC without the BB plugged or DM running. However when I ran DM to do the update it said no software needed. I went into common files then the rim folder then the apploader subfolder and deleted the vendor.xml as expressed in the first post about the new firmware.

Ok. Try this.
Go to the same place where you found the vendor.xml file and look for a file called loader.exe... double click on that and it should install.

but they can be overwritten by MML right I have seen threads about it elsewhere. The next step would be install a VM and install XP and see if MML works that way.
