I took some photos with my camera phone but I cannot find them on my phone. I did not have a media card inserted so I assume the pictures were stored in memory somewhere. But where?

in the Device Memory.

Look at Media > Pictures.

I had already checked that Pictures area in Media. But all that shows up is Preloaded Pictrues, not the ones that I took with the camera

You should have a choice of prloaded pictures folder or device memory folder, look in device memory.

Also try going to media, hit menu key and select explore and have a look around there.

Media/Menu/Explore should have worked since now it gave me a folder option, but I could not find my photos. Was I supposed to do something special to save them?

I'd speculate that for whatever reason, you didn't actually take a photo, or you tried to take a photo and there wasn't enough memory available to save it.
