I just bought a blackberry flip. I knew that the flips are 8220 but when i go to options>about it says its a BB 9100. How is that possible? 9100 were known as kickstart but when the flip officially came out they were called 8820.
Now i cant seem to find any applications or themes for 9100. Will all the apps of 8220 will work on my 9100. What if i want to upgrade my OS. Should i go for 8220 latest OS.
    Please help.

Really? That's odd. IIRC the flip was going to be in the 9XXX range. Picture?

Where did you get it from? That's if you don't mind me asking. New unit?

bought it of a store in Karachi Pakistan. Its not an official Blackberry retailer so cant even take to unit to my service provider. I think its one of the testing units as when i load it up its says for engineering use only, property of RIM.

Sounds like you bought a half baked prototype. You could stick a SIM in it and use it with whatever apps are already on it. At least that way you're guaranteed to have a working phone.

If you like to live dangerously, you could intentionally brick it and try to force an 8220 OS onto it. If you decide to go this route, let me know so I can bring popcorn and welder's goggles!

Does it have 3g or anything? This is a rare find that you have. I don't recall any other 82xx prototypes being around for even Kevin to find.

this is a very early build you have. i remember when it first leaked a few members here had 9100s. but i thought they were blacklisted after official 8220 came out, since they were old prototype models. does yours work fully?
