I have searched the previous threads on this issue and have not found a working solution to date.

Here's the info:

• Blackberry Pearl 9100, bought online, unlocked.
• Blackberry Plan active and working on 8100.
• On the 9100, Voice, SMS, Browser etc. works, however the device does not register on the AT&T data network.
• I have wiped the device, updated the operating system, re-installed AT&T service books, and spoken with both AT&T as well as Blackberry Technical Support, without success.
• Only the lowercase "edge" symbol shows with the AT&T SIM card. Interestingly, with an Orange Sim roaming on T-Mobile, the "3G" symbol shows. (I have considered switching to T-Mobile, but they do not have an unlimited international data plan).
• Apparently, the software installed on the Blackberry does not support the AT&T data network, therefore the device does not register.

Are there any known solutions / workarounds to this issue?

what are the first 4 digits of you imei?

The IMEI starts with 0044

then you are messed up because its an internal unit from RIM, return it.

not if its has 0044, where are you located? most anything from canada will work, you have to line up the bands

it will be hard to get one from canada, nobody will ship to the us. I think rogers, telus, bell, etc might use 850/1900 which is what you want for att 3g. use unlockusa.com for $ 2 to unlock it.
