I can chat with people on BB messenger no problem and have fixed my "dumbness" when adding people.

Whenever anyone starts w convo or sends me new messages, I'm not hearing any sound. I've double checked everything and made sure that it wasn't muted or on vibrate or anything like that.

What am I missing?

make sure you aren't listed as unavailable in BB messenger. If you are, you won't get any sound notifications.
