Just curious what would happen =D I heard you can load the Curve OS on the Pearl (for adding video recording ability to 8100 for instance), but is this possible with the 4.7 version? Also, does anyone know what models OS 4.7 can support? Are we all going to be left in the dust with our 8100s?

Sorry but what you have heard is incorrect. You cannot load the OS for a Curve onto a Pearl. Nor can you put OS 4.7 onto a Pearl. There is however OS 4.5 available for the 8100 that includes the feature you mention.

You can in fact install the Curve OS onto the Pearl: forums.crackberry.com/f5/how-use-video-camera-106213/#post1096125

The blackberry OS is the same on all platforms minus a few device specific features. Anyone with helpful info out there?

That's not installing the Curve OS onto a Pearl. That guide shows how to take one particular module from the Curve OS and install it to an 8100. One file. Not the entire system.

Ah, you got me there, I didn't read closely enough. I still don't see any reason why OS 4.5 wouldn't run on any model though...

There are apparently some subtle differences in the code architecture based on each of the models from what I've been told. That's why you wouldn't be able to take the entire OS and install it on any device. It sure would make things a lot easier though. Supposedly RIM is going that route with the development of OS 5.0.

I'm happy about that, I really like my 8100 and want it to enjoy the ongoing updates.

It does seem like they are trying to get rid of the 8100. Every newer update seems like its for the 8130 or 8120. There is no way that 4.7 would work for the 8100. It would be sweet though cause they have a lot of cool updates for it
