Is there a way to set a one time alarm without disabling a current daily alarm? I can't seem to figure this out?

No you can only do one alarm at a time with the native alarm app. If you need something more try BBSmart Alarm Pro available in the Crackbery.com store

OK sounds good...I downloaded the free trial and i seem to have some trouble (i'm doing test runs)...My phone isn't making any noise for the alarm...is there a setting to make it ring? i have it set to a loud one (100) and it still isn't working?

Go to Options > Advanced > Applications, highlight the BBSmart Alarm Pro application, click the menu button and select the Edit Permissions button. Once you're in there, you can expand by three different sections by clicking on the menu button again and selecting Expand. Browse around and make sure that the Media Access is set to "Allow"
