What I do for most phones that I have is buy and extra battery and battery charger because I can't afford to be without my phone on and handy at all times.

It shouldn't take that long. I charge mine about every couple of days, I just put it on the charger before I go to bed and let it sit there. Once it's charged, it will stop and won't overcharge.
