    You CANNOT load an OS file intended for the 8220 on the 8230. The 8220 has WIFI where as the 8230 doesn't. You might end up with a fried phone if you try it.

    ^ yep, each OS is specific to the device. just like you cant load anything for a 9500 on a 9530 or vice versa.

    Also, the other BIG deal about these are one is GSM and the other is CDMA.

    GSM- AT&T; T-mobile;

    CDMA- Cellular South; Alltel; Verizon; Sprint;

    The basic difference is that GSM has a SIM card.

    CDMA does NOT use a SIM card. (unless it is a world edition, then a SIM card for over sea's)

    GSM can buy a phone take out the card and put it in the other phone and it works.

    CDMA can buy a phone and we have to call customer service to change the device for us.

    Anything meant for GSM cannot be used for CDMA.

    Hope this helps.

    To add something else to the loop, I don't believe that a CDMA phone will work across the water (Europe, Asia, etc). I think that only the GSM phones work, and that is why the CDMA companies have a World Edition Phone. It takes a SIM card, and will work across the water.

    Just thought I would add that in.
