There is a limit when sending text messages of 160 characters. Beyond that point the phone says field full and you can't type anymore. Is there a way where you can exceed that limit and the message is just sent as either an mms or split into two texts like most phones?? Thanks.

On my 8320 it shows 1 of 6. Meaning I could literally type 160 characters x 6! This would send 6 text messages to the user, with 160 characters per message...

I'm surprised that it's not the same on your 8130.

I hate how that happens! Usually if you have to type 160 characters it's because you're trying to make a really good point, but then you have to cut it off! Grr

Yeah. The 160 limit totally sucks. Dont know why they have it expecially with Verizon. They support super long txt msgs.

I just switched to the blackberry from my pocket pc. Same provider Verizon. And on my pocket pc I could type a novel and it would split it up into multi texts, each consisting of 160. The blackberry Absolutely will not let me continue and i have to start a new text to finish. I would like to change this of anyone knows of a setting i can change? Thank you

I'm jealous. For some stupid reason mine will only let me type 140 characters, and wont even split it. One other thing that would be very nice is if my Pearl, when recieving such extended messages, would join them together. ie, currently, when I get a text that is 3 long, it shows the messages like
    3/3
    2/3
    1/3
Granted, this is the order that the phone recieved the messages in, but it is quite annoying to have to scroll up and down every time you finish one part. The blackberry should be more than capable of combining these.

There is no "fix". The Verizon 8130 does not support EMS (Enhanced Message Service) which splits msgs longer than 160 chars into multiple msgs, 8130 only supports SMS (Short Message Service) being one block of 160 chars.

hi everyone; yes i'm a noob and this is my first post that i'll probably look back on in utter embarrassment..so sorry in advance if this sounds like a rookie question to a very easy and solvable problem.

in my messages box, i have an old message that i had already sent with a check beside it; but when i click to delete it and it gives me an option of 'yes' and 'no'...i click 'yes' to confirm deletion...but the message is still there.

i've tried turning my pearl off and on; and then back on again to see if that clears things up; but to no avail. i'd greatly appreciate it if someone can help me with this; it's not a BIG, BIG issue...but a frustrating one nonetheless; as it's not doing something that should be working in the first place. thanks.

Try posting this in a new thread instead of tacking it onto an unrelated one...you'll get a better response.

Welcome to The Crack! ;P Try pulling your battery while your Pearl is on.

IF pulling out your battery while the phone is on does not work, then backup your data, and update the software on the web. I had a similar problem and this seemed to fix it! good luck (BB pearl 8130)

I can't understand why when I had the Voyager I was able to Post a "novel", now I can't!! I mean thankfully this doesn't apply to my emails. So Does this rule apply to the Verizon 8330 as well? Is there a way to fix this?

    yes, and no.

    the only options are to:

--send a 160 character SMS using short hand.

--send an MMS which can be 1000 characters

    --send an email instead.

--send a BBM or PIN message.

I tried sending an MMS msg to my mother-in-law who is a HUGE texter...I always type novels when responding to her. She kept gettin an error message on her EnV2. Will MMS only work with BB's? I can send her SMS, but the 160 Character limit on the BB 8130 with SMS TOTALLY STINKS I'll get on a roll typing out a text, and next thing I know I've exceeded my limit! GRRR!!!!

you should be able to send an MMS to anyone that has the ability to receive them. the env2 can for sure.

what error is she getting? does this happen when you send her pictures as well? or only when you are sending an MMS without a pic?
