Ok, forgive the noob question. I backed up my 8120 using the desktop manager software. I'm not using Outlook with my contacts (i use Gmail), so is there a way of getting my contacts into a format on my pc that I can actually read, not a weird ipd file that I can't open?

How does the ipd file work, say I lost my BB and wanted to put my backed up stuff onto another BB, is this the purpose of the ipd file?

Things were so much easier with a SIM card you could copy...

IPD is the format used by Intellisync on BlackBerry and other smartphones.

Advanced restore will let you select individual data bases to restore.

There are utility programs that let you view and edit the contact information in the file.

Free download ABC Amber BlackBerry Editor, edit contacts in IPD files
